Collection consists of legal documents related to Thomas A.S. Hay, Anna Maria (Stewart) Hay, Thomas Hay, M.D., A. Charles Dunlop, Eleanor Susanna (Stewart) Dunlop, and Mary Dunlop. The collection includes wills, and property and estate documents.

Fonds is comprised of three bound volumes of correspondence, sketches, paintings, diaries, receipts, newspaper clippings, deeds, baptismal and marriage records, family trees, and scrapbooks pertaining to the Wallis family. Included also are several documents pertaining to the Forbes family, related to the Wallis family through marriage. The Peterborough-born sculptress Katherine E. Wallis (1860-1957), whose papers are located in Trent University Archives, was a member of the Wallis family.

Fonds consists of correspondence, journals, and newspaper clippings related to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart. Many papers originate from the family of their son, Henry Louis Stewart. Also included is one photograph, a sketch of Auburn, the family homestead, and a hand-drawn map.

Collection consists primarily of photocopies and emails with information pertaining to various aspects of Peterborough's history, from both the city and the county. Brief history of the town of Lakefield is also included.

The 15 microfilm reels from the Department of Lands and Forests holdings contain field survey notes for most townships in southern Ontario dating from 1784 to 1945. The handwritten guide to the survey notes was prepared by students in a geography course at Trent University.

The fonds consists of photocopies of the following memoirs of settlement in the Bobcaygeon Area. a) Reminiscence of Mossom Boyd, written down by M.M. Boyd, 1875-1877, typescript copy, 5 pages. b) Manuscript copy of J.W. Bicks "Reminiscences and Memorandum on Coming to Canada in 1837 and Dunsford family in 1838;" gathered 1891 (January 9) 5 pages. c) George Dunsford Reminiscences, taken down by H.J. Wickham, 1894 in Miss Boyd's hand.

This fonds consists of photographs, two charcoal portraits, land documents, family bible and biographical sketches of Lakefield, Ontario. It also includes information on the Joseph Walton family of Smith Township. The bible contains genealogical information and is a "Cottage" Bible stamped with name of Joseph and S.J. Walton.

This collection consists of two legal documents which belonged to Mrs. Friedman's sister. One is an indenture between James Holden and Thomas Westaby of Lincolnshire, dated February 20, 1686. The other is a land grant to Henry Smith, of 200 acres in Garafraxa township, Halton County, dated December 2, 1824 and December 27, 1825.

Fonds pertains to the life of Theodore Thorne Hamilton (1890-1959) and his extended family. The documents, comprised of original letters, vital statistic certificates, photographs, and postcards, are interleaved with detailed biographical information compiled by the donor, Mr. Jim Hamilton, a second cousin (twice removed) of Theodore Thorne Hamilton. Included are approximately 100 photographs pertaining to the Skeena River flood of 1936, approximately 30 early 20th-century Bobcaygeon area postcards, and two Bibles.

Fonds consists of historical materials pertaining to the Lakefield, Ontario area: land records, a transcription of the Katchewanooka Herald (1855-1859), Strickland family genealogy, and a family Bible which belonged to Helen S. Wallis.

This fonds consists of research papers and notes pertaining to the publication of the Peterborough Historical Atlas in 1975 and the subsequent activities of the Peterborough Atlas Foundation. Genealogical resource.

Fonds is comprised of 22 diaries authored by Richard Everett Birdsall (1837-1877), son of surveyor Richard Birdsall (1799-1852); Charlotte (“Lot”) Birdsall (1837-1933), [wife of Richard Everett Birdsall]; Francis (Frank) Birdsall (1838-1914), son of surveyor Richard Birdsall (1799-1852); and Richard (“Dick”) Everett Birdsall II ([1860]-1945), [only son of Frank Birdsall]. Also included is family correspondence (photocopies, originals, and transcriptions) dated 1819-1856; these items include original correspondence and militia lists related to the 1837-1838 Rebellion. The fonds also includes loose items from the diaries and two copies of attestation forms for the Seventh Provisional Battalion of Militia of Upper Canada.

This 73-page typewritten manuscript is an anecdotal record of the information McBain amassed about the properties in northeast Cavan Township. It includes a record of the hamlet of Springville west of the Cavan-Monaghan boundary and of Fairmount (formerly Morrow), a crossroads on the 12th Line, and references to Ida and Mount Pleasant on the middle road. There are in-depth references to properties and families on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th lines east of the middle road to the Monaghan boundary.

This fonds consists of research material, mostly in copy form, created during the writing of This Green and Pleasant Land.

The fonds includes photocopies of the following items: Township Patent Book, 1820-1872, including the names of the grantees, lot purchased and dates as well as township/municipal election returns, and oaths of office for 1850. It also includes the correspondence of John Reid, township road surveyor, with elected officials and citizens, including maps, drawings etc.; township business papers, including receipts, taxation abatements, and school business; and Statute Labour lists and returns for the year 1850. This collection consists of a copy of the pamphlet "Deed of Settlement of Pugets Sound Agricultural Society" [printed in 1912], a photocopy of pages of an article with the title "Exile in the Wilderness" by Jean Murray Cole, University of Washington Press, 1979, which refers to this Society, and a letter dated January 6, 1994 from Anne Morton to Hugh Anson-Cartwright with enclosures which establish the date of printing of the pamphlet as approximately 1912.

The fonds consists of correspondence regarding Upper Canada politics, rebellion, papers as Justice of the Peace; militia records; survey records and lists of settlers in 1825 Irish settlement of Emily township, Upper Canada; and photocopies of Huston's survey of Verulam township, 1834, donated by H.T. Pammett. This fonds contains excellent information on the settlement of Emily Township by Irish immigrants sponsored by Peter Robinson and facilitated by John Huston. The item is a microfilm of a copy book of correspondence from and to Peter Russell, president administering the government of Upper Canada during the period November 1796 to March 1798. The correspondents include Captain William Claus, Superintendent of Indians and Indian Affairs, and Captain Joseph Brant. Included are copies of speeches made by Russell to "Brothers, Chiefs and Warriors of the Six Nations" concerning their land grants on the Grand River, as well as speeches to "Brothers, Chiefs and Warriors of the Chippewa Nation".

This item is a photocopy of an 1840 report written by Henry Ruttan, Sheriff of Newcastle District, as a response to the circular letter of Lord Sydenham. Discussed in the letter are the militia, the roads and other internal improvements, the land granting system, the state of education; the (projected) union of the two provinces and responsible government. Several uncritical pages are missing.

Collection consists of a guide to nearly all of the Frances Stewart letters located at Trent University Archives and elsewhere. The guide is a biographical reference tool which indexes all the names which appear in the letters. The indexing locates each name in the approximately 450 letters and gives the corresponding page number in the transcripts (94-006); it provides the source of biographic information, and explains the relationship of each person to Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Browne Stewart. The guide is arranged alphabetically by last name and includes hundreds of names, i.e., Sydney Bellingham, Rev. George Brabazon, Rev. Francis Browne, John Burnham, Rev. Mark Burnham, Zaccheus Burnham, Frances Anne Edgeworth, Agnes Fitzgibbon (nee Moodie), Catherine Elizabeth Kirkpatrick (nee Browne), Susanna Moodie (nee Strickland), Robert Reid, Peter Robinson, Captain Charles Rubidge, Frances Stewart (nee Browne), Thomas Alexander Stewart, Samuel Strickland, Catharine Parr Traill (nee Strickland), and Robert Waller (complete list of names attached below). The guide, which was researched and compiled by Jean Shearman and Elizabeth Shearman Hall, is a tremendous piece of work and is an invaluable resource for researchers.

Fonds consists of photographs (ca. 60) related to the families of Jacob Way (1804-1882), originally of Northport, Prince Edward County, Ontario, and his two sons, Edward Hoag Way (1845-1922) and Gideon Shepard Way (1853-1937). Also included are death certificates, copies of clippings, and detailed typed documents which provide genealogical and biographical information pertaining to each of the families; these were prepared by family descendant, Yvonne A. Green. Ms. Green also provided identification for some of the photographs which had previously been unidentified.

This collection consists of research material pertaining to sailing directions in Lake Ontario in 1815-1816; a photocopy and typescript of "Captain W.F.W. Owen's journal & memoirs of the back or Northern Communication between Lakes Ontario and Huron, 1817"; and a photocopy of "Elias Smith, Loyalist, Letter Book, 1799-1800" with accompanying typed indexes. Also included is a copy of "A History of Elias Smith U.E. 1736-1820, patentee of Hope Township and Merchant of Montreal" by Phyllis White, 1990, and a copy of "Oaths of Allegiance sworn before William Willcocks, J.P. 1800-1806 and Robert Baldwin 1800-1812" compiled by Phyllis White, 1997.

The fonds consists of correspondence and accounts of John Tucker Williams (1841-1854) and of his son Arthur T.H. Williams (1860-1885). Included are leases, deeds and lists of John Tucker Williams' land holdings; correspondence and accounts relating to the Canada Company; material relating to the John Tucker Williams' estate; material relating to the estate of Silas Williams and Company, merchant tailors; and other material relating to various members of the family.

The fonds consists of field notes, reports, descriptions and certificates relating to surveys conducted by John Reid. The areas surveyed included Cavan Township, Monaghan Township, Smith Township and Otonabee Township which are in the County of Peterborough.
