The fonds consists of 19 documents including deeds, conveyances, and a map of the mill and water power property of Samuel Dickson and relating to land in the Water/McDonnel/Hunter Streets and river area of Peterborough, Ontario (Upper Canada and Canada West). Also an 1823 grant of Lot 1, Communication Road, Smith Township collected by the Davidson Family.

It also includes business correspondence, invoices, some journals and cashbooks, mortgages as well as deeds regarding the business of Henry Fowlds, Jas. S. Fowlds and Bros. and H.M. Fowlds. In December 2001, Trent University Archives launched an online exhibit which depicts Helen Fowld's experiences in World War I. The fonds consists of correspondence regarding Upper Canada politics, rebellion, papers as Justice of the Peace; militia records; survey records and lists of settlers in 1825 Irish settlement of Emily township, Upper Canada; and photocopies of Huston's survey of Verulam township, 1834, donated by H.T. Pammett. This fonds contains excellent information on the settlement of Emily Township by Irish immigrants sponsored by Peter Robinson and facilitated by John Huston. Included are provision records, location tickets, and also Peter Robinson's signed letters.

The fonds includes photocopies of the following items: Township Patent Book, 1820-1872, including the names of the grantees, lot purchased and dates as well as township/municipal election returns, and oaths of office for 1850. It also includes the correspondence of John Reid, township road surveyor, with elected officials and citizens, including maps, drawings etc.; township business papers, including receipts, taxation abatements, and school business; and Statute Labour lists and returns for the year 1850.

The fonds consists mostly of Helen Marryat's (nee Helen Fowlds) personal experiences as a nurse in World War I, and her activities as a local historian. There are clippings of her articles in local newspapers, historical maps (drawn by Gerald Marryat) and other materials relating to settlement of Hastings and district such as education and nursing. Also included are the correspondence and photograph collections of her brothers, Donald and Eric (mostly from World War I), and material on Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), navy captain and novelist. This fonds consists of research in the 19th and 20th century Canadian historical geography, specifically emigration and settlement from British Isles to Upper Canada, the Trent Canal use during WWII, the environmental and cultural consequences of flooding from the Trent Canal dam in the late 19th century, and research on Bon Echo, Algonquin, and Banff National Parks. Research is also included on European migration and land settlement patterns and processes in Cape Province, South Africa in the early 19th century and in Western Australia in the early 20th century. Included in the research materials are several maps, a small collection of photo negatives, and microfilm reels.

This fonds consists of Professor Brunger's research in 19th century Canadian historical geography, mainly in Upper Canada/Ontario, focused on emigration from the U.K. and settlement in Newcastle (Peterborough County) District and London (Talbot Settlement) District. Included in the research materials are several maps, a small collection of photo negatives, and microfilm reels.

Fonds is comprised of approximately 105 historical photographs, family genealogy documents, various company shares, wills, and land documents pertaining to the family of Andrew Finnie II (1820-1908), resident of South Monaghan Township and farmer from the 1850s onwards. The photographs pertain largely to descendants, some of whom moved to Manitoba and sent photographs of themselves to the home farm in South Monaghan; many fine examples of photographs taken by Peterborough photographers in the 19th century are included. This fonds also includes detailed genealogical information compiled by the donor about the people represented in the photographs; also included are the donor’s detailed descriptions of the textual documents.

Fonds includes 16 envelopes containing approximately 105 photographs, especially of people, with attached genealogical information. Family names include the following: Finnie, Porter, Wood, Chambers, Cochrane, McAllister, Hall, Fisher, Dawson, Stewart, Truscott, Pacey, Scott, Moncrief, Vincent, Renton, Nairn, Richmond. Also included are photographs pertaining to the Centreville Presbyterian Church (South Monaghan), and the Finnie family homestead in South Monaghan Township. An envelope titled “Sophia Finnie” includes a typed document written by the donor titled “Our Canadian Roots”; it explains the family lineage stemming from the eighteenth-century fur trader William Renton of the Hudson Bay Company.

Fonds also includes 11 envelopes of various company shares, wills, and land documents pertaining to Andrew Finnie II and family descendants; attached to each envelope are typed notes describing the contents.

Fonds consists of historical materials pertaining to the Lakefield, Ontario area: land records, a transcription of the Katchewanooka Herald (1855-1859), Strickland family genealogy, and a family Bible which belonged to Helen S. Wallis.

Collection includes correspondence, email printouts, notes, photographs, research materials, and newspaper clippings. Much of this material pertains to research on the Traill family of Lakefield, Ontario.

Fonds consists of photographs (ca. 60) related to the families of Jacob Way (1804-1882), originally of Northport, Prince Edward County, Ontario, and his two sons, Edward Hoag Way (1845-1922) and Gideon Shepard Way (1853-1937). Also included are death certificates, copies of clippings, and detailed typed documents which provide genealogical and biographical information pertaining to each of the families; these were prepared by family descendant, Yvonne A. Green. Ms. Green also provided identification for some of the photographs which had previously been unidentified.

Fonds is comprised of the family papers of Sydney Helmer Standen and Euphemia Young Standen (nee McQueen). These papers include ancestral records and photographs dating from the 1860s to the 1970s and touch geographically on England, Scotland, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. They pertain primarily to the families of Standen, McQueen, Drysdale, Ronald and Bensen and include such individuals as Sydney (Sid) Helmer Standen, Euphemia (Effie) Young Standen, Philip Andrew Standen, Neil McQueen Standen, Sydney Drysdale Standen, Eric James William Standen, James McQueen, Margaret (Maggie) McQueen, Elsie McQueen, and Peter Ian McQueen. Subjects include migration, settlement, farming, education, teaching, military service and war, and domestic life.

Fonds is comprised of 22 diaries authored by Richard Everett Birdsall (1837-1877), son of surveyor Richard Birdsall (1799-1852); Charlotte (“Lot”) Birdsall (1837-1933), [wife of Richard Everett Birdsall]; Francis (Frank) Birdsall (1838-1914), son of surveyor Richard Birdsall (1799-1852); and Richard (“Dick”) Everett Birdsall II ([1860]-1945), [only son of Frank Birdsall]. Also included is family correspondence (photocopies, originals, and transcriptions) dated 1819-1856; these items include original correspondence and militia lists related to the 1837-1838 Rebellion. The fonds also includes loose items from the diaries and two copies of attestation forms for the Seventh Provisional Battalion of Militia of Upper Canada.

Fonds is comprised of three bound volumes of correspondence, sketches, paintings, diaries, receipts, newspaper clippings, deeds, baptismal and marriage records, family trees, and scrapbooks pertaining to the Wallis family. Included also are several documents pertaining to the Forbes family, related to the Wallis family through marriage. The Peterborough-born sculptress Katherine E. Wallis (1860-1957), whose papers are located in Trent University Archives, was a member of the Wallis family.

Fonds consists of original letters, certificates, sketches and maps pertaining to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart of Peterborough, Ontario and their descendents. Included are letters to Ellen Dunlop written by Frances Stewart, Catharine Parr Traill, Harriet Beaufort, and others. Also included are pieces of sheet music and music certificates of Alice Roger Collins; medical certificates of Doctor Thomas Hay; newspaper clippings related to Katherine E. Wallis; and a scrapbook of nineteenth-century ferns and mosses of the United Kingdom.

Fonds pertains to the life of Theodore Thorne Hamilton (1890-1959) and his extended family. The documents, comprised of original letters, vital statistic certificates, photographs, and postcards, are interleaved with detailed biographical information compiled by the donor, Mr. Jim Hamilton, a second cousin (twice removed) of Theodore Thorne Hamilton. Included are approximately 100 photographs pertaining to the Skeena River flood of 1936, approximately 30 early 20th-century Bobcaygeon area postcards, and two Bibles.
