The name "Stanley McBride, Centreton, Ontario" is found on the fly leaf. Several items listed as sold in the estate auction relate to farming.

              The fonds consists of three volumes detailing cases handled by Smith plus his accounts. The docket book contains details of estates administration including those of H.H. Burnham and Mary Tuer, railway right-of-way and various other cases from 1911 to 1918, and it includes an index. There is also a cash book and an account book from 1917 to 1922.

              This fonds consists of a letter by Henry Rowed, census enumerator, to Thomas Ayre, census commissioner for United Counties of Northumberland and Durham, relating to physical characteristics and economic outlook of Seymour Township. There is reference made on the effect of repeal of British corn laws upon winter wheat culture in the township.

              This item is a day book of T.B. Collins. It has daily entries from June 27, 1884 to August 22, 1885 showing the sales of general merchandise, as well as several entries "to cash". From October 1885 to November 1903, entries are in the form of accounts, are not daily, and deal mostly with cash exchanges. Also included are entries relating to mortgages; details of expense accounts for building barns, houses and other buildings and items. In the back of the book, entries are headed "Pump Business:, December 1884-October 1885.

              This collection consists of two photographs and five prints of various towns. The two photographs are of Port Hope and are hand-coloured. One photograph (item #1) is of Trinity College School before the fire. The other photograph (item #2) is framed and matted. It is of Port Hope's harbour taken from the western hill. There is one coloured reproduction print (item #3) of Port Hope which is matted and framed. This print was presented by Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Lewis to Trent University on the occasion of the opening of Bata Library. There is one print (item #4) of Lindsay which was produced in 1882. Another print (item #5) is entitled "Hastings on the Trent, Ont." and was drawn by Rev. M.A. Farrar and lithographed by Brown and Bautz. Item #6 is a framed black and white photograph of an 1832 pencil sketch of Government House in Peterborough which was drawn by Mary Sanford. The last print (item #7) is a framed coloured reproduction print of York from Gibralter Point from 1828.

              The microfilms were produced by the Archives of Ontario from records in possession of the Clerk of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham dating from 1849 to 1870. This collection includes the rolls of the towns, villages and townships of the United Counties arranged in alphabetical order as follows: Alnwick, Bowmanville town, Brighton, Brighton village, Cartwright, Cavan, Clarke, Cobourg town, Colbourne Village, Cramahe, Darlington, Haldimand, Hamilton, Hope, Manvers, Monaghan South, Murray, Newcastle village, Percy, Port Hope town, and Seymour.

              This fonds consists of township records, by-laws, legal correspondence, records of the Queen's Bench and General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham. Records include indictments, convictions and inquests and case records (which are effectively a continuation of the inquests, convictions and indictments series).

              The microfilms are copies of assessment and census rolls, 1803-1850, voter's lists, 1854, and poll books, 1816, 1820, 1824 for the Newcastle District. Area covered includes various townships in the present-day counties of Peterborough, Northumberland, Durham and Victoria. The townships of Hamilton and Haldimand were not filmed.

              This fonds consists of 4 original documents pertaining to the land on which Victoria College, Cobourg, was situated. One document is the declaration of Rev. S.D. Rice verifying the signatures of the Attorney General (John A. Macdonald) and the Deputy Registrar (Thomas Mayor) on the other three documents.

              This addition to the fonds consists of deeds, correspondence, school workbooks and records from a correspondence course offered in 1933-34 by the University of Toronto. There is excellent correspondence relating to the lives of Annie and Daisy Davidson which describes the lives of young women at the end of the nineteenth century struggling to educate themselves and to find appropriate employment.

              This fonds consists of photocopies of the letters of probate of Last Will and Testament of Zaccheus Burnham including a copy of the will dated June 12, 1856 and codicils to the will dated 1856 and 1857. Also included is a probate of the will dated March 14, 1857. There is certification by W.F. Johnston, notary public, Peterborough, that the foregoing papers are a true copy of the Letters Probate of Zaccheus Burnham dated May 6, 1889.
