            Rosemary McConkey collection

            This collection consists of 278 slides taken by Rosemary McConkey during her work as a nutritionist in Malaya (1962) and in Nigeria (1965). McConkey was part of a team of medical personnel and scientists from the University of Ohio who undertook surveys of nutritional needs in these two areas. McConkey has supplied a detailed listing of the slides (below) and has also included a 45 r.p.m. recording of the national anthem of Malaya "Negara Ku,", six books relating to the two areas and a map of Malaya.             Fonds consists of travel brochures, postcards, correspondence, publications, photographs, and journals that document the Marnie McCulloch’s travel throughout Canada and Greenland. She visited Australia, British Columbia, Northern Manitoba, Hudson’s Bay, Greenland, the Northwest Territories, and Yellowknife . Fonds includes brochures, travel journals, newspaper clippings, postcards, and pamphlets about Inuit, Aboriginal Australian, and Haida art, which she collected in her travels.

            Fonds also include essays written by Marnie McCulloch on the topics of her travels, Northern Canada, Northwest Coast First Nations, and other topics.

            A highly decorative piece consisting of a circular map 17 in. in diameter of the Arctic set within a rectangle 19 x 17 in. with its remaining portions filled with remarkable coloured vignettes of whaling scenes in the northern regions. The Arctic is shown in its standard form for this period ... with Northwest America absent due to lack of available knowledge.

            The fonds consists of the correspondence and manuscripts of the Peterborough author and teacher, Francis J.A. Morris, primarily relating to his interests in botany, entomology, and classical and modern literature. The papers include both prose and poetry selections, some of which are unpublished. Morris wrote for diverse journals, among them the Canadian Forum, and the Canadian Entomologist. Also among the papers are published copies of some of his works, and copies of the works of other authors, mainly in the field of natural science and botany or entomology. There are photographs included, some of which are reproduced here.

            Fonds consists of original letters, certificates, sketches and maps pertaining to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart of Peterborough, Ontario and their descendents. Included are letters to Ellen Dunlop written by Frances Stewart, Catharine Parr Traill, Harriet Beaufort, and others. Also included are pieces of sheet music and music certificates of Alice Roger Collins; medical certificates of Doctor Thomas Hay; newspaper clippings related to Katherine E. Wallis; and a scrapbook of nineteenth-century ferns and mosses of the United Kingdom.
