This fonds consists of a two-volume biography of Eliza Jane (Hughes) McAlpine, 1854-1938, written by her grandson, Wallace McAlpine, fifty years after her death. The biography contains the Hughes family history from the Napoleonic era, follows Eliza's parents to Canada in the 1840's, describes the marriages of her siblings, and gives a fine sense of life in Durham County in the early years of Canada's nationhood. Eliza's battle with spinal meningitis is recounted. The volumes trace the events, joys, and sorrows of the sizeable Hughes family, the accomplishments of Eliza's husband, Dr. John McAlpine, and the experiences with horses and subsequently automobiles. The extraordinary impact of Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" is described. The famous Sir Sam Hughes was Eliza's brother and some of his exploits are described. Eliza's tour of Europe is described as it took place just before the outbreak of World War I. Lt. A.A. MacLeod's story is told. There is an account of Lt. Col. Cyril D.H. McAlpine's fateful expedition in the Arctic; a biographical sketch of J.W.L. Foster who painted a portrait of Eliza; an account of M.P. Tom Stinson's visits with Eliza; Eliza's disgust with Vicki Baum; her pleasure in talking with Chief Paudash; and finally her death and its aftermath. The volumes provide a wide, varied sketch of the times in which the events transpire.

Attached to the pages within the volumes are approximately 30 photographs, most of which are portraits, and are both in black and white, and colour.

This fonds consists a photocopy of a manuscript written by de la Fosse describing his brief experience in the Canadian West. There is a short introduction by Sylvia Boorman as well as concluding remarks. Two pages are missing and are mentioned by Sylvia Boorman in her introductory letter which accompanies the manuscript. The introductory letter is dated July 5, 1990.

This fonds consists of three letters between Gene Kelly, Steve Otto and James Rothenburg discussing a possible connection between Kelly and the Sheehy Family of the former "Sheehy" house, which became part of Peter Robinson College, on George St. N., Peterborough, Ontario.

Fonds is a photocopy of a communication written to James F. Dennistoun, President of the Auburn Woollen Mills, dated September 6, 1882. It was written by the employees of the company who welcome Dennistoun back after a period away due to illness. They also express sincere thanks for the kindness and courtesy which he has always shown them. Among those who signed the letter is James Kendry, manager of the company.

One of the CDs is of a speech called "Follow the Dream," about millwright Adam Scott, given by Robert Scott Dunford in September 2003. Another CD is of a speech called "Running a Living Mill," about Tyrone Mills, given by Robert Shafer in March 2004. The third is of a speech called "The Roy Collection of Chemong Park," given by Mary Lavery in May 2004.

The fonds consists of correspondence received by Emmett Sheehy relating to cases of various prisoners in which Sheehy was interested and to the sale of Canadian wheat to Britain, from 1931 to 1939. Correspondents include W.L. Mackenzie King, Mitchell Hepburn, Maurice Dupre and Hugh Guthrie. Also included is a crown land grant to Joseph Aiott, Smith Township, 1852.

Item is a copy of the 1936 annual meeting minutes of the Peterborough Presbyterial Women's Missionary Society. The meeting was held in Norwood, Ontario on 18 June 1936.

This item is a broadside which reads "A By-Law to amend By-Law No. 54, ...... for the purpose of restraining the running at large of Animals in the Township of North Monaghan, providing for the impounding of the same and settling the height and description of Fences in said Township." The broadside was printed by Alexander Graham of Peterborough.

This item is a notebook, covering part of May and June of 1923. It contains notes on medical experiments. The return address reads "Department of Pathology, (Bacteriology Section) Toronto General Hospital" while the label on the cover reads "Notes on Military Lectures Given to the Officers' Training Corps of the Army Service Department of the Canadian Militia at Toronto".

Microfilm consists of one 16 mm reel of records collected by Chief George Paudash of the Hiawatha reserve at Rice Lake, Ontario. Included on the reel are the following: Letterbook, 1825-1842; Band Council Minutes, 1834-1848; Peter Jones Entry Book, 1831-1848 (includes band council minutes, correspondence, addresses, and petitions); and Band Council Minutes and Correspondence, 1842-1867. The reel is Series A - Vol. 1011, T-1456.

This fonds consists of 2, 5 X 7 black and white, photographs of Colonel Samuel Strickland. There is also a newspaper clipping concerning H. Strickland's long-distance swim of 1905.

This item is a typescript of an address to the Fortnightly Club by Ralph C. Honey, describing the production of the Centennial book, "Peterborough: Land of Shining Waters." The address was written March 14, 1967.

This fonds consists of one school class photograph, and negative, from S.S. #5 from 1900. The names of all the children and the teacher are listed on the back of the photograph. There is one photograph, and negative of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hope and which had belonged to Ross Comrie. There is also one photograph, and negative, of John, Hugh and Alexander McFee. There is family history written on the back of the photograph about each McFee and their families as well as where John McFee lived.

This fonds consists of four typed manuscripts written by George H. Young for his children in [1913]. The titles of the manuscripts are as follows: "Historical Paper No. 1. Notes of 1869-70. The Red River Settlement at times spoken of as Fort Garry" (33 pages); "Historical Paper No. 2. The Fenian Raid of October 1871 into Manitoba" (21 pages); "Historical Paper No. 3. Being the first paper of the rebellion of 1885" (22 pages); "Historical Paper No. 4. Re. The half breed and Indian insurrection of 1885" (22 pages). There are references throughout to Louis Riel.

Fonds consists of two microfilm reels. The first is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Band Records, 1880-1966, and includes land sale records, correspondence in sale of land, and Jesuit diaries. Source information noted on this film is as follows: "This material lent for microfilming to the Department of Public Records and Archives by Mr. Wilmer Nadjiwon of Cape Croker, February, 1968, and was returned to him. Accession Number 6018". There is also reference to "Ontario Archives" throughout. The second is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Records, 1856-1919 and includes Paul Smith field notes, band council resolutions, native cures, and history of Cape Croker reserve.
