Collection consists of approximately fifty pieces of antiquarian maps, engraved views, portraits and scenes relating to the Red River Settlement of Manitoba and the North West Rebellion of 1885. The engravings reflect the emerging province of Manitoba as seen through the eyes of nineteenth century travellers and historians. Two bird’s eye views are of particular note, the first being a spread of views, buildings and an insert map of Winnipeg dated 1882, and the second being a lithographic bird’s eye view of Winnipeg, 1884, depicting the city in its early development, surrounded by vignettes of local prominent public and private buildings. Also included is a “British America” J. & F. Tallis map with the principle vignette being “Hudson City”, ca. 1849.

This fonds consists of one 1850 notebook entitled "J.K. Roche's Field Notes, Port Hope" which contains survey notes on properties in Port Hope, Canada West, and which belonged to the estate of John D. Smith. There are also two survey documents describing Lot 3, Concession 1 in Hope Township which is signed by John K. Roche and is dated July 20, 1844, and one which is signed by Geo. A. Stewart, Ward, and is undated. Also included in the fonds are three unidentified and undated school building architectural drawings.
Hope TownshipThe fonds consists of correspondence regarding Upper Canada politics, rebellion, papers as Justice of the Peace; militia records; survey records and lists of settlers in 1825 Irish settlement of Emily township, Upper Canada; and photocopies of Huston's survey of Verulam township, 1834, donated by H.T. Pammett. This fonds contains excellent information on the settlement of Emily Township by Irish immigrants sponsored by Peter Robinson and facilitated by John Huston. Included are provision records, location tickets, and also Peter Robinson's signed letters.
Huston, JohnThis item is a letter written by Andrew Mather of Beadnell, 9th Concession, Otonabee Township to his son-in-law Jonathan MacDougall after the death of Mather's daughter. The letter outlines the opportunities open to MacDougall if he were to choose to settle in Otonabee Township. The letter also gives news of neighbours and friends. Included is a transcript and comments regarding MacDougall by Margaret Dunham Vanderploeg, great granddaughter of MacDougall.

There is also a listing of lots held by the Canada Company in 40 or more townships and a listing of prices of various woods and staves. There are entries at both ends of the notebook dating from 1831 to 1832.

A transcript of the report is included.

One is an indenture between James Holden and Thomas Westaby of Lincolnshire, dated February 20, 1686. The other is a land grant to Henry Smith, of 200 acres in Garafraxa township, Halton County, dated December 2, 1824 and December 27, 1825.

This item is a framed land grant document granting John Meyner one hundred acres of land in Cavan Township and dated 10 October 1821.
Waddell familyThis accession consists of one dictionary, of which the title page is missing. The oldest date pencilled in appears to be 1780. Signatures include Robert Stewart, William Reid, Mary Stewart, and John Stewart. The dictionary, referred to as "Old Noah" by the Reid family, was passed down through several generations of Reid family. It originated in Ireland, and was brought to Canada by Robert and Maria Reid.
Reid familyThis collection consists of a copy of the pamphlet "Deed of Settlement of Pugets Sound Agricultural Society" [printed in 1912], a photocopy of pages of an article with the title "Exile in the Wilderness" by Jean Murray Cole, University of Washington Press, 1979, which refers to this Society, and a letter dated January 6, 1994 from Anne Morton to Hugh Anson-Cartwright with enclosures which establish the date of printing of the pamphlet as approximately 1912.

This fonds consists of 12 microfilm reels of records from the Canada Company located in the Archives of Ontario. It includes correspondence, 1824-1904: letter books, correspondence with Commissioners, shareholders, H.M. Government, etc.; Minutes, 1824-1869: Court of Directors and committee minutes; and Reports, 1841-1864: as well as reports on tracts of land.
The fonds consists of carbon copies of Surveyor's correspondence regarding a municipal drain dated November 6, 1958; and 3 undated identical maps for zoning in the City of Peterborough.
