Name of creator
Edward C. Caddy (1815-1897) was a land surveyor who learned his trade in Peterborough between 1839 and 1842. He was also a painter in the Trent Valley District. His landscapes were primarily in water colour.
This item was in the custody of Helen and Gordon Roper before it was donated to the Trent University Archives. Helen is the granddaughter of Edward C. Caddy.
Scope and content
This item is a pencil sketch of Young's Point. On the paper backing of the frame which has been removed the following is written: "Young's Point - Edward Roper c 1882? from his sketchbook, donated by Gordon Roper. Young's Point (north of Peterborough) from Edward Roper's sketch book, 1882, bought through Michael Bell". There is some speculation as to whether the name Edward Roper should have been Edward Caddy.
Immediate source of acquisition
This item was donated by Helen and Gordon Roper of Peterborough, Ontario.
