Trent University. Northern Chair and Northern Studies fonds
The records of the Northern Chair consist of committee minutes, taped lectures, correspondence, records related to Thomas Berger, Dennis Patterson, Mary Simon, William Taylor, etc. and cover the dates 1986-2003. The records were forwarded to the Archives in 1993 by Peter Kulchisky, in 1996 by John Milloy, and in 1998 by Bruce Hodgins. A further addition of tapes, reels, and videos was received from the Audio-Visual Department in approximately 2012 and added to existing boxes.

Fonds consists of records of the Trent University Athletic Department. Files include material documenting the development of the Athletics Department, its offerings, and its facilities. Fonds also includes Paul Wilson's files on various sports teams, clubs, and events, Michael Treadwell's correspondence and brochures of various racing sailboats, and material gathered from other universities' athletics programs.

This collection of papers was received from Professor Roy Edwards in 1987. Most of the materials concern the boat Turtle Two which was owned by the Biology Department at Trent University and used for river-based experiments. The word Turtle was derived from Trent University Research and Teaching Laboratory for ExperÂimental Work. The materials cover the years 1968-1973.

The records concern all public relations aspects of Trent University and include many fugitive items from other fonds. They were forwarded to the Archives by Jim English. Many files pertain to student activism in the 1960's at Trent and at other universities, and to the Trent University Founding Fund and Development Fund. Information on convocations, text of honorary degree presentations and photographs is included. The dates covered are for the years 1962-1980.

Fonds consists of records documenting the Stinson family, primarily the legal and political career of T.H. Stinson. Family records include Christmas cards, wedding invitations, and family portraits, Mrs. Stinson's correspondence, and travel records (postcards, booklets, photographs) documenting the 1913 Christian North American Tour, in which Mr. and Mrs. Stinson participated. Records documenting T.H. Stinson's legal and political career include law school notebooks (1904-1910), correspondence and a scrapbook regarding the 1921 election, campaign files and notes from the 1930 and 1935 federal elections and Leslie Frost's 1934 provincial campaign, material from the Conservative Party Caucus Study club, newspaper clippings regarding the depression and the Bennett government, memoranda, correspondence regarding the riding organization (1933-1935); and House of Commons materials. There are postcards which depict scenes of Canada and the United States, from approximately 1920. Included, also, are several local maps, election posters (1927), and voter tally boards.

This collection consists of protest newspapers, newsletters, journals, essays, and 'left wing' political manifestos written and published between 1964 and 1973. The records cover Canada and the United States.

Fonds consists of two letters and 5 watercolour paintings. One letter is from Susanna Moodie to Mrs. Katie Vickery, Susanna Moodie's daughter, which is undated. The second letter is from Moodie's her publisher in England congratulating her upon the success of Roughing it in the Bush and enclosing a contract for a subsequent book entitled _Mark Huddleston. The watercolour paintings are by Susanna Moodie and all depict flowers.

This fonds consists of miscellaneous personal documents relating to Gilbert Monture, including his family tree and a copy of his birth certificate. Also included are various speeches and articles by Monture, correspondence ranging from 1912-1983, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous photographs, materials relating to Pauline Johnson, correspondence and minutes relating to the Canadian Correction Association project "Indians and the Law", and documents regarding an exhibit at the Indian Hall of Fame, Canadian National Exhibition.

Isolated manuscripts collection
The Trent University Archives occasionally receive single items, maps, drawings, individual letters or very small groupings of letters and documents. As these do not comprise fonds, they are minimally processed and described. There are many important records and documents received in this manner and researchers should not overlook them.
