The fonds consists mostly of Helen Marryat's (nee Helen Fowlds) personal experiences as a nurse in World War I, and her activities as a local historian. There are clippings of her articles in local newspapers, historical maps (drawn by Gerald Marryat) and other materials relating to settlement of Hastings and district such as education and nursing. Also included are the correspondence and photograph collections of her brothers, Donald and Eric (mostly from World War I), and material on Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), navy captain and novelist. In December 2001, Trent University Archives launched an online exhibit which depicts Helen Fowld's experiences in World War I. In 1994, an addition was made to the fonds which included a photocopy of a diary of Robert Pengelley (1837-1840) and textual records regarding the Pengelley family. In 2018, an addition of Pengelley family genealogical information was received.

The fonds consists of the personal diaries, letter books, and store notebooks of John Northway and his son A.G. Northway and the business and corporate records of the companies founded by John Northway and Son Limited, the Northway Company Limited, and their various subsidiaries throughout Ontario. They include pension fund operations, ledgers, financial statements, investment registers etc. No records exist which show the manufacturing operations of John Northway and Son Limited.

This fonds consists of letters from a servant girl, Isabella Brownlie in Otonabee to her brother Claud in Scotland. After 1845, the letters are from Isabella and her husband James Miller. The fonds also contains two photographs, one of Isabella's brother, Claud Brownlie, with his wife, Elizabeth [Kendrick], and the second of Claud Brownlie alone, as well as a diploma for Thomas Menzies Miller, 1891.

This item is a photocopy of a letter from A.G. Fleming, of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to his sons, David and Sandford, in Canada.Topics discussed include difficulties in booking passage to Canada, activities of David, and those of (later Sir) Sandford in railways. Also mentioned is Dr. Hutchison, Peterborough's first doctor, as well as incidences of grave illness and quarantining of newly-landed emigrants. The letter is dated July 16, 1847.

This item is a photocopy of Dr. Hutchison's birth register of his patients, which he kept during his practice in Port Hope, Cobourg and Peterborough. It is taken from the doctor's lecture note-book, from his days as a medical student in Glasgow (1815). The birth register contains births from 1817 to 1846.

The fonds consists of the Sherin family and business records such as mortgages, deeds, notebooks, correspondence and newspaper clippings from May 1, 1814 to November 5, 1970. The fonds also includes records of the general store, J.C. Sherin and Son of Lakefield; day books dating from June 6, 1860 to June 2, 1881; December 4, 1886 to September 28, 1906; and journals dating from 1860 to 1907. The fonds consists of microfilmed copies of correspondence, memoirs, and copies of documents relating to his affairs, from 1820 to 1864. It also includes extracts from parish registers, from 1634 to 1822.

The item is a microfilm copy of a scrapbook compiled by D.S. Cruther's grandmother containing obituaries and pictures of all kinds of events, from such journals as the Illustrated London News, Harper's Weekly, etc. The scrapbook is a good study of the social, architectural, art and other interests of a Mid-Victorian Canadian woman.

The fonds consists of correspondence regarding Upper Canada politics, rebellion, papers as Justice of the Peace; militia records; survey records and lists of settlers in 1825 Irish settlement of Emily township, Upper Canada; and photocopies of Huston's survey of Verulam township, 1834, donated by H.T. Pammett. This fonds contains excellent information on the settlement of Emily Township by Irish immigrants sponsored by Peter Robinson and facilitated by John Huston. Included are provision records, location tickets, and also Peter Robinson's signed letters.

This fonds consists of photocopied correspondence, of a political and social nature, mainly from Thomas D'Arcy McGee and John A. McDonald, covering topics such as the entertainment of the Maritime delegates to the Quebec Conference. The correspondence dates from June 5, 1862 to June 21, 1867.
