This fonds consists of a group of 28 indexes compiled by the Registrar General's office and its successor, the Registrar's Branch of the Secretary of State including General Indexes, 1651-1954; keys to General Indexes, 1651-1947; indexes relating to Dominion Lands, Indian and Ordinance Lands, grants, deeds, proclamations, quit-claims, commissions, letters patent and others from 1700 to 1965.

This addition to the fonds consists of a pen and ink drawing of Conger House and hill, north of George Street in Smith Township, by Edward C. Caddy. The cardboard backing from the original frame has information regarding the sketch and donor.

This fonds consists of 12 microfilm reels of records from the Canada Company located in the Archives of Ontario. It includes correspondence, 1824-1904: letter books, correspondence with Commissioners, shareholders, H.M. Government, etc.; Minutes, 1824-1869: Court of Directors and committee minutes; and Reports, 1841-1864: as well as reports on tracts of land.

The fonds consists of a Lay Reader's Licence issued to a Mr. Russell Jack by Bishop Edward Cridge in St. John, New Brunswick, 1876.

Item is a copy of the 1936 annual meeting minutes of the Peterborough Presbyterial Women's Missionary Society. The meeting was held in Norwood, Ontario on 18 June 1936.

This item is a corrected carbon text of Peterborough's Architectural Heritage edited by Martha Kidd and published in 1978.

Peterborough's Architectural Heritage was written by Martha Ann Kidd and published by the Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee in 1978. The Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was established through a by-law made by the City of Peterborough after the Ontario Heritage Act of 1974 was passed by the Province of Ontario. Committee members consisted of Victor Barry, Edgar J. Boland, Teresa Bradburn, Eric V. Jackson, Martha A. Kidd, J.J. Overvliet, Eldon P. Ray, Jennie Spurway, Margaret Fleming and Betty Ross. The committee developed a number of guidelines for its activities and set out to compile a list of pre-1890 structures within the boundaries set by the Otonabee River, Parkhill Road, Park Street and Townsend Street. The list consists of photographs of the buildings and text containing information about the buildings architectural style and information about most of the homeowners. The list was compiled in order to aid Peterborough City Council in determining whether a permit for drastic exterior alteration or demolition should be issued for any of the properties. This item is a broadside which reads "A By-Law to amend By-Law No. 54, ...... for the purpose of restraining the running at large of Animals in the Township of North Monaghan, providing for the impounding of the same and settling the height and description of Fences in said Township." The broadside was printed by Alexander Graham of Peterborough.

This item is a notebook, covering part of May and June of 1923. It contains notes on medical experiments. The return address reads "Department of Pathology, (Bacteriology Section) Toronto General Hospital" while the label on the cover reads "Notes on Military Lectures Given to the Officers' Training Corps of the Army Service Department of the Canadian Militia at Toronto".

Microfilm consists of one 16 mm reel of records collected by Chief George Paudash of the Hiawatha reserve at Rice Lake, Ontario. Included on the reel are the following: Letterbook, 1825-1842; Band Council Minutes, 1834-1848; Peter Jones Entry Book, 1831-1848 (includes band council minutes, correspondence, addresses, and petitions); and Band Council Minutes and Correspondence, 1842-1867. The reel is Series A - Vol. 1011, T-1456.

This fonds consists of 2, 5 X 7 black and white, photographs of Colonel Samuel Strickland. There is also a newspaper clipping concerning H. Strickland's long-distance swim of 1905.

This item is a typescript of an address to the Fortnightly Club by Ralph C. Honey, describing the production of the Centennial book, "Peterborough: Land of Shining Waters." The address was written March 14, 1967.

The microfilms are copies of assessment and census rolls, 1803-1850, voter's lists, 1854, and poll books, 1816, 1820, 1824 for the Newcastle District. Area covered includes various townships in the present-day counties of Peterborough, Northumberland, Durham and Victoria. The townships of Hamilton and Haldimand were not filmed.

This fonds consists of 45 issues of the magazine: Canadian Horticulturalist and Beekeeper which was published in Peterborough, Ontario from 1881. Four additional issues (March, 1897, November, 1897, March, 1898 and January 1899 were donated in 1993 by Jean Cole via the Friends of the Bata Library) and in 1994, additional issues (May 1890-June 1896, scattered) were added courtesy of the Friends of the Bata Library.

Fonds consists of the printed genealogy of the families of Ian Lachlan Campbell (1927-) and Marion Isabel (Wellwood) Campbell (1926-). Included are 14 spiral-bound volumes entitled "Difficulty Overcome." The volumes are a study of the clans, extended families, lineages and families of the descendants of Colin Campbell (b. Islay 1792, d. Eldon Twp., Ontario - 1877); Isabella Carmichael (b. Islay 1792, d. Eldon Twp., Ontario - 1830); William McLachlan (b. Isle of Islay, d. Victoria County, Ontario); Christina Bell; William McCoy (b. Co. Down, Ireland, 1819, d. Hamilton, Ontario, 1887), Ann Hamilton (Ireland); Samuel Jeffery (b. County Down, Ireland, d. Haley Station, Ontario); John Elis Gilpin (b. United Kingdom, d. Jellys, Ontario - 1869); and Margaret Laycock (d. Haley Station, Ontario - 1900).

The fonds consists of a photocopy of the history of the 57th Regiment, Peterborough Rangers from 1914 to 1916 written by Francis H. Dobbin. It includes an index. The history from 1946 to 1970 was continued by Major D.P. Pryde.

This fonds consists of one school class photograph, and negative, from S.S. #5 from 1900. The names of all the children and the teacher are listed on the back of the photograph. There is one photograph, and negative of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hope and which had belonged to Ross Comrie. There is also one photograph, and negative, of John, Hugh and Alexander McFee. There is family history written on the back of the photograph about each McFee and their families as well as where John McFee lived.

This fonds consists of four typed manuscripts written by George H. Young for his children in [1913]. The titles of the manuscripts are as follows: "Historical Paper No. 1. Notes of 1869-70. The Red River Settlement at times spoken of as Fort Garry" (33 pages); "Historical Paper No. 2. The Fenian Raid of October 1871 into Manitoba" (21 pages); "Historical Paper No. 3. Being the first paper of the rebellion of 1885" (22 pages); "Historical Paper No. 4. Re. The half breed and Indian insurrection of 1885" (22 pages). There are references throughout to Louis Riel.

Fonds consists of two microfilm reels. The first is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Band Records, 1880-1966, and includes land sale records, correspondence in sale of land, and Jesuit diaries. Source information noted on this film is as follows: "This material lent for microfilming to the Department of Public Records and Archives by Mr. Wilmer Nadjiwon of Cape Croker, February, 1968, and was returned to him. Accession Number 6018". There is also reference to "Ontario Archives" throughout. The second is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Records, 1856-1919 and includes Paul Smith field notes, band council resolutions, native cures, and history of Cape Croker reserve. Source information noted on this film is as follows: "Rec'd Dec. 12, 1966, Dept. Ethnology."

Fonds consists of an undated photograph of Susan Burnham Greeley, and a newspaper article from the [Colborne Express, 22 September 1904] regarding the death of Greeley. Also included is an envelope addressed to E.C. Caddy of Cobourg, Ontario and mailed in 1895, with handwritten notation "from Cousin Susan".

This fonds consists of the Catharine Traill Naturalists' Club's administrative papers, club newsletters, field trip notes, various papers regarding field trips and workshops, membership/address lists and personal correspondence of founding members, George McKiel, Elizabeth Parnis and Wendy Dathan.

This black and white photograph is of a man in clerical dress and is by the Roy Studio of Peterborough. On the reverse, the name "E.H.D. Hall" (a Peterborough lawyer associated with the firm of Hall, Gillespie) is written in pencil. The subject of the photograph is identified in pencil on the reverse as "Rev. Herbert Simonds [sic] ". Symonds married Emma Boyd, daughter of Mossom Boyd. They had several children including one son, Herbert Boyd Symonds (Boydie). He was killed in W.W.1.

This item is a printed program for the opening ceremony of the Peterborough Centennial Museum on October 28, 1967. Participants in the opening ceremonies were Lt. Col. R.J. Bolton, Rev. D.E. Tansley, Mayor Jos. Behan, Carmen Metcalfe, Hugh Faulkner M.P., Walter Pitman, Magistrate W.R. Philp, A. Kraetzer-museum contractor, E.B. Zeidler-museum architect and Col. Hugh Wallis as the guest speaker.

This fonds consists of the original diary of Margaret Jane Scott who attended Lindsay Model School and then Toronto Normal School before teaching in Omemee, Ontario. The diary covers the period of time Margaret spent in Toronto at Normal School. Also included in the fonds is a typescript copy of the diary which is bound and includes an introduction, photograph and a section entitled conversations with Ida Scott which was produced September 12, 1994.

This fonds consists of microfilm of municipal and other records produced by the Archives of Ontario. It includes assessment and collectors rolls, 1852-1886, as well as voters lists and poll books, 1866-1867. Also included are receipts and expenditures, 1868 and the minutes of North Monaghan Intellectual Improvement Society.
