Music book for violin (handwritten), which belonged to J.S. Cairnduff and has his name in gold lettering on the front cover; spine is titled “Sacred Music”, undated. The first few pages contain handwritten explanations on the differences between harmony and melody as well as a vocal scale. Half of the book contains handwritten musical compositions for violin and the remainder of the book is blank. There is an index in the back of the book where the names of the compositions (which are generally place names) and page numbers are recorded. (Note: J.S. Cairnduff was from Picton, Ontario where he had a shop selling shoes and harnesses; he moved to Nogie’s Creek (Mill Line) near the Oliver property which is now owned by Trent University; Cairnduff was married to a Yarwood).

Photograph album (cream colour) which belonged to Margaret McWilliams, great-grandmother of Joyce Anderson. The album contains 43 photographs of unidentified people. Also inside is an obituary card for Frank Crowe, who died 21 February 1904, with handwriting that reads “Aunt Maggie and Uncle Nat,” as well as a handwritten note that reads “To Mother from Ida and Frank with love and Christmas greetings.”

Inside is a newspaper obituary for Manley Cairnduff, who died at age 29 in Bobcaygeon.

The following items are loosely inserted: 1873 letter to Cairnduff from the Conservatives of the Township of Athol; a photograph of three girls taken by W.B. Ewing Photographer, Picton; various pressed leaves and flower. The writing at the back of the Bible reads “Presented to Mr. and Mrs. Cairnduff by their loving neighbours and friends, Athol January 25th 1873.” There is also a merchant’s label on the back of the Bible which reads “R.A. Foster & Co. Booksellers, Stationers and Dealers in Fancy Goods Picton ON.”
