Item - Music book for violin (handwritten), which belonged to J.S. Cairnduff and has his name in gold lettering on the front cover; spine is titled “Sacred Music”, undated. The first few pages contain handwritten explanations on the differences between harmony and melody as well as a vocal scale. Half of the book contains handwritten musical compositions for violin and the remainder of the book is blank. There is an index in the back of the book where the names of the compositions (which are generally place names) and page numbers are recorded. (Note: J.S. Cairnduff was from Picton, Ontario where he had a shop selling shoes and harnesses; he moved to Nogie’s Creek (Mill Line) near the Oliver property which is now owned by Trent University; Cairnduff was married to a Yarwood).
