This item is a photocopy of the Last Will and Testament of John Huston, land surveyor. It was executed on July 10, 1845 by Mary Ann Fair (formerly Huston) one of the devisees therein named. The will was registered 11 July 1845 by George C. Ward, Deputy Registrar.

Black expresses his sorrow at not being able to send money to his wife for such a long time. He indicates the "very hard winter" and problems at his workplace, a "shop in town" which builds wagons, as reasons for not having any money to send.

Several of the accounts itemized in the book are with shoe companies. Glued in the book is a "Bank of Montreal, Peterborough" bank slip.

"The Old Doctor" (1985) was probably written between 1835 and 1840 when John Hutchison, a native of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, was practising medicine in Peterborough, Upper Canada.
This item is a photocopy of a letter written by Isabella Carr to her sister, Mrs. Richard Bond of Lockport, New York. The letter was written in February, 1846. The letter gives news of family and neighbours and tells of an outbreak of measles.
Carr, IsabellaItem is a photocopy of a 36-page unpublished typescript of the letters of Joseph Carrothers (1793-1870) and his brother Nathaniel (ca.1796-1881). The letters are dated 1839-1870 and were sent from London, Upper Canada to their father, William, in Enniskillen, Ireland.
The Irish emigrants' letters were posted mostly from Westminster, near London, Ontario, during the years 1839 to 1870. They were duplicated and bound by Edward Norman Carrothers of Belfast, Northern Ireland, for friends and relatives in Canada and Ireland. The authors of the letters, Joseph Carrothers (1793-1870) and Nathaniel Carrothers (ca.1796-1881), were brothers of Edward Norman Carrothers' grandfather, and the recipient of the letters was their father, William. The two brothers were born at Farnagh, Ireland. Nathaniel emigrated to Canada in [1835], and Joseph in 1847.
Fonds consists of 3 letters written to Wilfrid M. Hueston, Maria and Willie [Hueston], and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hueston, of Thorndale, Ontario in 1918 and 1919. The letters refer to the influenza pandemic of 1917, and World War I.

Item consists of a bound volume of both published and handwritten pages. The published title page reads as follows: "Practical points, or, maxims in conveyancing, drawn from the daily experience of a very extensive practice, by a late eminent conveyancer, Mr. Bradley, to which are added, critical observations on the various and essential parts of a deed. By the Late J. Ritson, Esq, second edition, corrected, London, 1820." Several published pages are interspersed throughout the hand-written pages and are bound together with them. The name Chas. Avery Moore (May 1824) appears a few times near the beginning of the volume, as does the name W.H.I. Vizard. The hand-written pages are an excellent example of exemplary penmanship.
This item is an account book of a business run by R. Waller which appears to be either carpentry or wagon-making. The book is dated June 1886 to June 1919.
Waller, R.This accession consists of one dictionary, of which the title page is missing. The oldest date pencilled in appears to be 1780. Signatures include Robert Stewart, William Reid, Mary Stewart, and John Stewart. The dictionary, referred to as "Old Noah" by the Reid family, was passed down through several generations of Reid family. It originated in Ireland, and was brought to Canada by Robert and Maria Reid.

The fonds also includes a few materials relating to surveying. The photocopied records date from 1837 to 1839.
