Stewart family fonds

Fonds consists of correspondence, journals, and newspaper clippings related to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart. Many papers originate from the family of their son, Henry Louis Stewart. Also included is one photograph, a sketch of Auburn, the family homestead, and a hand-drawn map.

This item is a day book of T.B. Collins. It has daily entries from June 27, 1884 to August 22, 1885 showing the sales of general merchandise, as well as several entries "to cash". From October 1885 to November 1903, entries are in the form of accounts, are not daily, and deal mostly with cash exchanges. Also included are entries relating to mortgages; details of expense accounts for building barns, houses and other buildings and items. In the back of the book, entries are headed "Pump Business:, December 1884-October 1885.

There subject matter of the stereographs are the Boer War in South Africa from 1889 to 1902; the Timothy Eaton Company including store interior shots; views of Niagara Falls and the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario.

Covers lightly soiled, with tanning to margins and spine, chipping to spine tips (appears to have been re-pasted), else a very good copy consisting primarily of historical and biographical sketches. This item is an account book dated 1902-1903 of a furniture factory owned by Frank Sanford of Fenelon Falls. At the end of the book, several pages are filled with grain accounts. Throughout, many pages are covered with pasted-in pictures from magazines, and a child's drawings. There are also three pages of notes relating to British colonies.
