This item is a privately published book inscribed to "my dear friend Mrs. Traill" from "George W. Bridges, Beachly Parsonage June 18, 1862." The book tells of the desertion of Mr. Bridges' wife and the drowning of their daughters in an accident near Jamaica and his efforts to effect a reconciliation.

The correspondents include Captain William Claus, Superintendent of Indians and Indian Affairs, and Captain Joseph Brant. Included are copies of speeches made by Russell to "Brothers, Chiefs and Warriors of the Six Nations" concerning their land grants on the Grand River, as well as speeches to "Brothers, Chiefs and Warriors of the Chippewa Nation".

Peterborough by-law no.231 broadsideThe Guillet papers are extraordinarily rich in photographs. Guillet (1898-1975) was born at Cobourg, Ontario and educated at the University of Toronto. He was the author of many books including Valley of the Trent, published in 1957. During the course of his research, Guillet collected photographs of local settlers and scenes, a few of which are reproduced here.
