This item consists of a photocopy of the municipal Board of Health returns, from 1847, RG 5 B 16 from the Library and Archives Canada. It is a report on the hospital and a request for money to help pay salaries and other costs that are usually incurred by the sick. This item was sent by the Mayor of Cornwall to the Government of Britain.

Item is an indenture between Garnet Lawrence Galley and Stella Galley of Toronto and J.C. Budreo of Toronto, for land "in the Township of Smith in the County of Peterborough and Province of Ontario, and being Lot Number Two according to a plan of Part of the Township Lots Forty-Four and Forty-Five in the Fourteenth Concession of the said Township of Smith, said Plan being known as a Plan of Kawatha [sic] Park made by Alfred J. Cameron, Ontario Land Surveyor, and Registered in the Registry Office for the County of Peterborough as Plan Number Forty-One."

This fonds consists of four maps dated between 1875 and 1905:: Martyn's Mill on the Otonabee River; land flooded by the Otonabee River in Smith Township; the Otonabee River between Dickson's and Martyn's Dams; and the acreage between Catchacoma Lake and Gull Lake.

This item is a printed program for the opening ceremony of the Peterborough Centennial Museum on October 28, 1967. Participants in the opening ceremonies were Lt. Col. R.J. Bolton, Rev. D.E. Tansley, Mayor Jos. Behan, Carmen Metcalfe, Hugh Faulkner M.P., Walter Pitman, Magistrate W.R. Philp, A. Kraetzer-museum contractor, E.B. Zeidler-museum architect and Col. This fonds consists of a photograph of the steamship Lintonia which plied the waters between Lakefield and Young's Point. There is also a ticket for the Empress in this fonds which was sister ship to the Lintonia.

File includes a composite photograph, Osgood Hall Law School Final Year, 1921 and a Province of Ontario certificate appointing Leslie Frost ""to be one of Our Counsel learned in the Law for Our Province of Ontario," 1933.

Cassettes contain a 1982 audio from Trent University Music Society's production of Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta "The Pirates of Penzance". One cassette contains Act 1, the other contains Act 2.

This item is a photocopy of a letter from A.G. Fleming, of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to his sons, David and Sandford, in Canada. Topics discussed include difficulties in booking passage to Canada, activities of David, and those of (later Sir) Sandford in railways. Also mentioned is Dr. Hutchison, Peterborough's first doctor, as well as incidences of grave illness and quarantining of newly-landed emigrants. The letter is dated July 16, 1847.

File contains records relating to material relating to work done by the Indian-Eskimo Association of Canada with Indigenous Peoples in the North. records include correspondence from Dr. Sutherland, on behalf of the IEA looking to acquire a Cessna 180 plane for use in the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Also contained are educational pamphlets for the IEA, a May 1962 newsletter of the IEA, and an editorial by Eleanor Sutherland, titled "A New Approach for Native People in Canada's North."

An essay on the influences of Professor T.H.B. Symons on the life of Denis Desjardins from his early francophone education in the 1960s to his reading of Tom Symons: A Canadian Life (2011). Denis Desjardins is a Trent University alumnus.

The Trent University Archives occasionally receive single items, maps, drawings, individual letters or very small groupings of letters and documents. As these do not comprise fonds, they are minimally processed and described. There are many important records and documents received in this manner and researchers should not overlook them.

File consists of a letter written on Massey College letterhead. Davies writes: "Dear Margaret: Here is the play about the Peterborough ladies - & another short one from the Peterborough district. - Many thanks for last night's delightful conversation! Rob."

This fonds consists of two typescripts of diaries written by Captain Thomas G. Anderson. The first diary consists of reminiscences of his early life, covering the years from 1795 to 1800 (10 pages). The second diary was written while Captain Anderson was the visiting Superintendent of Indian Affairs at Cobourg, Canada West from September to December 1849. It includes an account of a journey to settle an Indigenous land claim on Lake Superior and Lake Huron (34 pages).

File consists of textual records about Joseph May living at the Orphan Homes of Scotland and descriptions of his travels from Scotland to Peterborough and Belleville areas, where he attended the Peterborough Normal School for teaching. Included is a photograph of boys on the steps of Fairknowe School in Brockville after Joseph arrived in Canada in 1926, and a photographic booklet of the Orphan Homes of Scotland (1926). Also included is a yearbook from the Peterborough Normal School (1944), a single page in his handwriting recording a timeline of his life events, and original documents containing a Certificate of Elementary Agriculture and Horticulture (1939) and Convocation programs (1954, 1960) from the University of Toronto.

File consists of a modern reproduction of a photograph of Bill Batten leading a parade in front of Hendren’s Funeral Home in Lakefield to deliver Massey equipment. Photograph is accompanied by a note that reads “Bill Batten was the Massey Harris agent for the county of Peterborough.....his nickname was ‘Massey....’”. Also in file, a letter from the Newcastle Village and District Historical Society and a handwritten explanation of Bill Massey Batten.

File includes a scenic panoramic titled "Camp Tanamakoon, Summer Camp for Girls, Operated by Miss Mary Hamilton, Algonquin Park Station, Ontario Can." (photographer: P.E. McDonald, ca. 1925). Also includes a photograph album dated 1925 containing approximately 75 photographs of Camp Tanamakoon. The photographs were taken or gathered by Sheila Playfair McGillivray, a senior camper in 1925; a few pertain to logging in Algonquin Park.

This fonds consists of four typed manuscripts written by George H. Young for his children in [1913]. The titles of the manuscripts are as follows: "Historical Paper No. 1. Notes of 1869-70. The Red River Settlement at times spoken of as Fort Garry" (33 pages); "Historical Paper No. 2. The Fenian Raid of October 1871 into Manitoba" (21 pages); "Historical Paper No. 3. Being the first paper of the rebellion of 1885" (22 pages); "Historical Paper No. 4. Re. The half breed and Indian insurrection of 1885" (22 pages). There are references throughout to Louis Riel.

Folder 2 of 2: Colonel Robert Brown scrapbook (Col. Brown was a colonel of the Royal Scotch Fusiliers. Thomas Traill and J.W.D. Moodie were in his regiment). The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings pertaining to his interest in USA relations, campaigns abroad, and matters relating to colonial affairs in Upper Canada; it also includes several original paintings of noteworthy soldiers with whom Brown had come into contact. Also included is a painting of an Indigenous woman entitled "One of the Indian Women who received His R.H. the Prince of Wales... 7th Sept. 1860."

Also included are 4 original sketches: 1. [original] Gore homestead at Gore's Landing, Ontario - a watercolour from memory by T.S. Gore Jr.; 2. "Hazelbank, Rice Lake"; 3. "Mavis Bank, Rice Lake' by J.T. Mercer (cottage); 4. "Plan of St. George's Church Yard, Rice Lake".
