Miller, IsabellaThis fonds consists of two typescripts of diaries written by Captain Thomas G. Anderson. The first diary consists of reminiscences of his early life, covering the years from 1795 to 1800 (10 pages). The second diary was written while Captain Anderson was the visiting Superintendent of Indian Affairs at Cobourg, Canada West from September to December 1849. It includes an account of a journey to settle an Indigenous land claim on Lake Superior and Lake Huron (34 pages).

Pammett. This fonds contains excellent information on the settlement of Emily Township by Irish immigrants sponsored by Peter Robinson and facilitated by John Huston. Included are provision records, location tickets, and also Peter Robinson's signed letters.

This fonds consists of one 1850 notebook entitled "J.K. Roche's Field Notes, Port Hope" which contains survey notes on properties in Port Hope, Canada West, and which belonged to the estate of John D. Smith. There are also two survey documents describing Lot 3, Concession 1 in Hope Township which is signed by John K. Roche and is dated July 20, 1844, and one which is signed by Geo. A. Stewart, Ward, and is undated. Also included in the fonds are three unidentified and undated school building architectural drawings.

There is reference made on the effect of repeal of British corn laws upon winter wheat culture in the township.

As well, there is correspondence and other documents relating to claims against Provost Milne (a friend of David Forbes), 1841-1844, and correspondence relating to marriage contract between Charles Neaves and Eliza Macdonald, 1835.

Bee, JohnThis item is an affectionate letter written by John Black from [Stockton] to his wife, Catherine Black, living in Carleton Place, Upper Canada. Black expresses his sorrow at not being able to send money to his wife for such a long time. He indicates the "very hard winter" and problems at his workplace, a "shop in town" which builds wagons, as reasons for not having any money to send.
Black, JohnThe fonds consists of three original letters. Two are written to Harriet Beaufort, the third and last one to Maria Noble. Letter #1 (November 9, 1823-December 6, 1823), tells of mail received, the death of Frances' daughter Bessie, description of produce, and of difficulties in communication with Cobourg. Letter #2 (January 27, 1824-February 5, 1824), describes Frances' troubles with servants, of Tom's trip to Cobourg over the Rice Lake/Peterborough Road, and his getting lost on the lake, and her new baby girl. Letter #3, written from Goodwood, (April 11, 1854), tells of Tom's death, and her reflections on it.

Victoria CollegeFile consists of 5 warrants of distress from Northumberland and Durham (Hamilton Township). One warrant from 1857 uses the name District of Newcastle to refer to the same region. Warrants are for two men, Oliver Stanton (3 warrants) and Thomas Johnson (2 warrants). The warrants all follow the same formal, legalistic style, outlining the debtor, the amount owed, and authorizing the sheriff to seize property up to that value. The verso of each warrant contains a summary of the person charged, amount owed and paid, and date(s).
