This item is a pamphlet regarding the Brown Memorial rededication at Centenary Park in Peterborough, Ontario.

Edward Templeton Brown, grandson to Frances and Thomas Stewart, was born at Goodwood, the family farm in Douro Township, Canada West, on December 24, 1852 to Edward Wilson Brown and Elizabeth Lydia Stewart. In 1879 he went to the Northwest Territory to help survey Riding Mountain National Park. After the survey was completed he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1880 he joined a party, led by Major Boulton, heading for the Shell River area of western Manitoba to settle on land. He joined Boulton's Scouts and during the Battle of Batoche was killed in action on May 12, 1885. The community in Peterborough decided to raise a memorial stone to Edward Brown to commemorate his death in the Riel Uprising.

This item is an account book which is bound in pigskin. Some of the accounts are related to the sale of clocks. Also included are notes with the following headings "To lay gild on glass", "To gild wood or stone", "To gild any metal", "To writ with silver letters", "To soften metal", "Numbers of an 8 day clocke", "To make yellow varnish", etc. It is possible that the owner of this account book was a clock-maker.

The letter outlines the opportunities open to MacDougall if he were to choose to settle in Otonabee Township. The letter also gives news of neighbours and friends. Included is a transcript and comments regarding MacDougall by Margaret Dunham Vanderploeg, great granddaughter of MacDougall.

Fleming, of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to his sons, David and Sandford, in Canada.Topics discussed include difficulties in booking passage to Canada, activities of David, and those of (later Sir) Sandford in railways. Also mentioned is Dr. Hutchison, Peterborough's first doctor, as well as incidences of grave illness and quarantining of newly-landed emigrants. The letter is dated July 16, 1847.

Item is a 180-page typescript of an Eskimo-French dictionary written by Arthur Thibert in 1932. An accompanying note written by Mary M. Parsons reads as follows: "While stationed at Eskimo Point N.W.T. where my husband was the O/C the R.C.M.P. detachment, I was requested by the priests of the Catholic mission to type a copy of this dictionary. I would believe this book to be one of the copies I made at that time. Arthur Thibert whose name the manuscript bears, was a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was, in fact, the priest who performed our marriage so I got to know him well. My part was done during the winter of 1941-42. [signed] Mary M. Parsons."

This item is a 16-page compilation of letters and excerpts from letters gathered in response to an attack on the Department of Education contained in a 24-page pamphlet written by G. Mercer Adam, a bookseller in Toronto. The first section contains three letters by Rev. Dr. Egerton Ryerson. The second section contains replies from public school inspectors, while the third section contains responses by J. George Hodgins, manager of the depository, and remarks and opinions of school trustees.

The principal correspondent in the "Attack on the people's depository for Ontario", Rev. Dr. Egerton Ryerson, was the Chief Superintendent of the Department of Education of Ontario. It was under his guidance that the educational system for the province was established.

This item is a photocopy of a typescript of a letter from J.B. McWilliams to Dean B.E. Fernow at the University of Toronto giving a very detailed account of timber licences in the Trent Valley (first licences, abandoned or cancelled licences) and of the amount of lumber taken out in 1872-1873 as opposed to 1912. His concerns were conservation and failing that, reforestation of the area. He also describes the Trent system of forest conservation. The letter is dated December 16, 1912.

This addition to the fonds consists of photocopies of the original report, field notes, diary and index of the re-survey of free grants on the Bobcaygeon Road, south of Bell's Line. The field notes are in diagram form with remarks on soil and timber. The fonds also includes notes on side roads, Concession "A", Township of Sherbourne, Ridout, Franklin and the "Queen's Line", and the Township of Franklin. Also included is a typescript of a report dated July 15, 1862 to Hon. Wm. Macdougall, Commissioner of Crown Lands. The report, etc. were written by J. Stoughton Dennis.
