This fonds consists of the working papers of R.G. Barclay including correspondence, notes and drafts relating to a history of unemployment insurance which was written by Barclay; correspondence, memoranda, press clippings regarding guaranteed annual wage plans and health insurance; correspondence and clippings regarding pensions; miscellaneous correspondence and papers; and photographs of Unemployment Insurance Commission staff and landscapes. The fonds also includes correspondence, memoranda, memorabilia and photographs regarding the "53 Varieties".

Most of the material comes from and concerns the Peterborough riding but there is some provincial and federal concerns included in the material. Fonds consists of records documenting the Stinson family, primarily the legal and political career of T.H. Stinson. Family records include Christmas cards, wedding invitations, and family portraits, Mrs. Stinson's correspondence, and travel records (postcards, booklets, photographs) documenting the 1913 Christian North American Tour, in which Mr. and Mrs. Stinson participated. Records documenting T.H. Stinson's legal and political career include law school notebooks (1904-1910), correspondence and a scrapbook regarding the 1921 election, campaign files and notes from the 1930 and 1935 federal elections and Leslie Frost's 1934 provincial campaign, material from the Conservative Party Caucus Study club, newspaper clippings regarding the depression and the Bennett government, memoranda, correspondence regarding the riding organization (1933-1935); and House of Commons materials. There are postcards which depict scenes of Canada and the United States, from approximately 1920. Included, also, are several local maps, election posters (1927), and voter tally boards.

This item is a parchment document appointing Joseph James Duffus a merchant in Peterborough, to the Senate of the Dominion of Canada in 1940. The Great Seal of Canada is affixed to the document.

This fonds consists of miscellaneous documents including Alexander Edmison's diary, a typescript of "Alex's Day", photographs, etc.

Collection consists of correspondence, 1882-1899, and several envelopes dating 1870s to 1890s, most of which are addressed to Thomas Choate of Warsaw, and Mrs. John Moore [Cettie Choate, daughter of Thomas]; souvenir brochure of pictures of Peterborough, Ontario; Maccabees brochures; approximately 125 stereographs depicting scenery, architecture, and people in the U.S.A., Europe, and Canada; two photographs of the employees of Western Clock Company Limited of Peterborough, Ontario, 1938 and 1944; a temperance meeting poster for Warsaw, Ontario, 1858; and an electoral district of East Durham proclamation broadside, 1924. Also included is the Choate Family Bible donated and added to the collection in 2002. The bible contains genealogical information on the Choate family.

This fonds consists of photocopies of letters written by Stafford F. Kirkpatrick to his brother Alexander in Dublin, with a few to his brother William regarding family and friends, business matters, local news, comments on the political situation in Canada, St. John's Church in Peterborough, Thomas A. Stewart and his family, and the Rebellion of 1837. The records cover the period between April 1831 and November 1851.

This fonds consists of records relating to the Policy Advisory Committee to Robert Lorne Stanfield of which T.H.B. Symons was a member. Records include correspondence and subject files, policy papers with remarks, notations, notes, background material and clippings and files regarding other political parties and conferences. Also included are records regarding the "Priorities for Canada Conference" held in Niagara Falls, Ontario in 1969.

Fonds consists of correspondence, questionnaires and reports generated by Professor David R. Cameron who was commissioned by the Department of the Secretary of State (superseded by the Department of Canadian Heritage) to investigate the status of Canadian Studies in the 1990s. His report, "Taking Stock: Canadian Studies in the Nineties" was published by the Association of Canadian Studies in 1996. Materials include readers' comments on the draft report.

Included also in this fonds are programs, financial and administrative records, and minutes related to Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, 1970s-1980.

This fonds consists of correspondence, news releases, newsletters, reports, briefs, research notes, clippings, photographs, agendas and directories relating to Richard Johnston, M.P.P. for Scarborough West (New Democratic Party 1979-1990) and as special advisor to the Toronto Islands. There is information on social issues, poverty, education and women's issues included within the fonds.

Hon. Duncan Graham was an Independent Liberal Member of Parliament for Ontario North from 1897 to 1900. His papers contain a form letter from the Canadian Pacific Railway dated April 3, 1900; a letter dated October 10 from S.A. Cunningham threatening to withdraw his support for Graham in the next election and a cancelled cheque from Graham and Dougall McQuaig to E.H. Henry dated October 10, 1899.

This item is a 16-page compilation of letters and excerpts from letters gathered in response to an attack on the Department of Education contained in a 24-page pamphlet written by G. Mercer Adam, a bookseller in Toronto. The first section contains three letters by Rev. Dr. Egerton Ryerson. The second section contains replies from public school inspectors, while the third section contains responses by J. George Hodgins, manager of the depository, and remarks and opinions of school trustees.

The principal correspondent in the "Attack on the people's depository for Ontario", Rev. Dr. Egerton Ryerson, was the Chief Superintendent of the Department of Education of Ontario. It was under his guidance that the educational system for the province was established.

This fonds consists of three notebooks filled with newspaper clippings which reflect the exploits and accomplishments of three generations of the Barker family, and which incidentally reveal much of contemporary life. The first notebook dated 1860-1905 speaks mainly of the life of Dr. Edward John Barker, founder and editor of the Kingston newspaper "The British Whig", and later the daily "Whig." Dr. Barker's son, R.W. Barker, postmaster, and later postal inspector in London, Ontario, is the second figure of consequence in this volume. R.W. Barker apparently had a good voice and the record shows his participation in entertainment on many occasions. The second notebook deals primarily with the life of Captain R.K. Barker in the Boer War. It covers dates 1899-1901 (& some later), and reveals in significant detail the involvement of the Canadian contingent in the Imperial campaign. The third book, 1915-1919, recounts the Canadian contribution to World War I as revealed in newspaper articles (primarily Toronto newspapers), with some references to Lt. Col. R.K. Barker and his brother Capt. W.D.P. Barker.

This fonds consists of four typed manuscripts written by George H. Young for his children in [1913]. The titles of the manuscripts are as follows: "Historical Paper No. 1. Notes of 1869-70. The Red River Settlement at times spoken of as Fort Garry" (33 pages); "Historical Paper No. 2. The Fenian Raid of October 1871 into Manitoba" (21 pages); "Historical Paper No. 3. Being the first paper of the rebellion of 1885" (22 pages); "Historical Paper No. 4. Re. The half breed and Indian insurrection of 1885" (22 pages). There are references throughout to Louis Riel.

These documents consist of two stapled mimeographed books. The first, dated March 1946 and entitled "The Union of Saskatchewan Indians: The Record of the Establishment of Indian Unity in Saskatchewan" records the minutes of meetings held in Regina, Duck Lake and Saskatoon, and provides names of the Constitution Committee. It also contains reprints of Treaties No.3 and 4. The second book, dated July 1946 and entitled "The Treaties Between Her Majesty, Queen Victoria and The Indians of British North America" contains reprints of Treaties No. 3,4,5,6,7, and 8.

This manuscript is a 1984 revised typescript, with original proofs, of Professor Margaret Doxey's publication, "The Contemporary World". Included are original maps used in the publication.
