Fonds is a photocopy of a communication written to James F. Dennistoun, President of the Auburn Woollen Mills, dated September 6, 1882. It was written by the employees of the company who welcome Dennistoun back after a period away due to illness. They also express sincere thanks for the kindness and courtesy which he has always shown them. Among those who signed the letter is James Kendry, manager of the company.

This item is a corrected carbon text of Peterborough's Architectural Heritage edited by Martha Kidd and published in 1978.

Peterborough's Architectural Heritage was written by Martha Ann Kidd and published by the Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee in 1978. The Peterborough Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee was established through a by-law made by the City of Peterborough after the Ontario Heritage Act of 1974 was passed by the Province of Ontario. Committee members consisted of Victor Barry, Edgar J. Boland, Teresa Bradburn, Eric V. Jackson, Martha A. Kidd, J.J. Overvliet, Eldon P. Ray, Jennie Spurway, Margaret Fleming and Betty Ross. The committee developed a number of guidelines for its activities and set out to compile a list of pre-1890 structures within the boundaries set by the Otonabee River, Parkhill Road, Park Street and Townsend Street. The list consists of photographs of the buildings and text containing information about the buildings architectural style and information about most of the homeowners. The list was compiled in order to aid Peterborough City Council in determining whether a permit for drastic exterior alteration or demolition should be issued for any of the properties. This collection consists of two marriage certificates. One is a handwritten certificate documenting the marriage of Charles Luduc and Sarah Walton, officiated by Pastor Michael [Tunlin], and dated 21 January 1868 at Cobourg. The other is a standard printed certificate, dated 28 February 1880 in Peterborough, and documenting the marriage of William Storms and Emma Preston. There is one family name in common on the two documents: Preston.

This item is a report of the selection and despatch of the Irish immigrants that Peter Robinson settled in the Peterborough area in 1825, including names of the ships used, numbers carried, a list of townships in which the immigrants settled and the results of the harvests in 1826. A transcript of the report is included.

Fonds is comprised of three bound volumes of correspondence, sketches, paintings, diaries, receipts, newspaper clippings, deeds, baptismal and marriage records, family trees, and scrapbooks pertaining to the Wallis family. Included also are several documents pertaining to the Forbes family, related to the Wallis family through marriage. The Peterborough-born sculptress Katherine E. Wallis (1860-1957), whose papers are located in Trent University Archives, was a member of the Wallis family.

Fonds consists of manuscripts and research materials pertaining to Jean Murray Cole's biography of Chief Factor Archibald McDonald, entitled Exile in the Wilderness, and her published compilation of Archibald McDonald's letters, entitled This Blessed Wilderness. Also included are extensive research materials on Ranald McDonald (son of Archibald McDonald). Other research relates to Peterborough area settlers including the Strickland family (Catharine Parr Traill and Susanna Moodie), Frances Stewart, and Sandford Fleming. Materials encompass all aspects of research, correspondence with descendants, papers given by Cole, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, and photographs. The fonds also contains Cole's files on "Edwardian Peterborough" (a conference held in May 2005).

Included are: Moulders' Local 191, Journeymen Tailors 23, Bricklayers 17, Painters and Decorators 370 and 725, United Brotherhood of Carpenters 672, Barbers 402, Pattern Makers, Machinists 286 and Operating Engineers 690, the International Union of Steam and Operating Engineers and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen," 1917 [in Polish]. Original correspondence from sister unions in Canada is included as well as large volumes of correspondence from the American headquarters of each local. In addition there are several original minute books, secretaries' books, and treasurer's reports for the locals. Published material includes circulars, by-laws, rules of order and constitutions. There are also records dealing with the Peterborough Trades and Labour Council (1902), the Labour Educational Association of Ontario, the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada and the American Federation of Labour, material from the latter two being mostly in the form of circular-type letters.
