This item is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings describing the Fenian Raids made on the borders of Canada West, Canada East and the United States in 1866.

This fonds consists of minutes, briefs, correspondence, reports, newspaper and magazine articles. Also included in the fonds are records relating to public hearings of the Federal Cultural Policy Review Committee.

Album contains approximately 100 cartes-de-vistes and cabinet photographs taken by professional photographers in such places as Toronto, Torquay and Oxford (England), Edinburgh, and Buenos Aires. There is a family connection to the Stricklands of Lakefield.

This fonds consists of four expense books. One book contains a price list for assorted household items listed in alphabetical order from 1912 to 1915. Another book covers someone's personal expenses from 1887 to 1889. The third book covers someone's accounts from 1912 to 1915. The fourth book has a few expenses in it but it is mostly a handwritten English to French phase translation book with accompanying letters from an agency which placed governesses.

There is a sworn statement by his sister, identifying him, his honorable discharge papers from the U.S. Army, his marriage certificate with Elizabeth Ann Kelly of Peterborough, an invoice for the burial of Eugene P. Eggleton, and the notification of birth registration for their daughter Mary Patricia Eggleton.

This fonds consists of 18 audio cassette recordings on local history topics made primarily by Enid Mallory. Ms. Mallory interviewed people throughout Peterborough County, many of them descendants of pioneer settlers. The topics include pioneer settlement, Riel Rebellion, Cavan Blazers, Warsaw, early stores (Choate, Lakehurst, Buckhorn), farming, cheese factories, Young's Point, Keene, the lumber industry, and the Chemong Bridge.

The first item is a diary of historical places in Paris, France, written from November 1911 to July 1912. It includes postcards of historically interesting buildings and notations regarding the use of the buildings and their origins. The second item is a diary of art history, written from February to July 1912. It includes postcards of works of art and notations relating to the history of art.

This item is a record book for accounts and minutes of the school board for the schools near Elizabethville in Hope Township, Ontario.

Collection consists of approximately fifty pieces of antiquarian maps, engraved views, portraits and scenes relating to the Red River Settlement of Manitoba and the North West Rebellion of 1885. The engravings reflect the emerging province of Manitoba as seen through the eyes of nineteenth century travellers and historians. Two bird’s eye views are of particular note, the first being a spread of views, buildings and an insert map of Winnipeg dated 1882, and the second being a lithographic bird’s eye view of Winnipeg, 1884, depicting the city in its early development, surrounded by vignettes of local prominent public and private buildings. Also included is a “British America” J. & F. Tallis map with the principle vignette being “Hudson City”, ca. 1849.

It also includes early unpublished and published poems and draft manuscripts, reviews and publicity for Censored Letters, Saying So Out Loud, Running Out of Time, Virgin Territory, Driven, Still, In Her Fifties, Where the Night Comes Closest, Relay, All That Desire: New and Selected Poetry, Found: A Body, Grave Deeds, A Studied Death, Poets in the Classroom and the chipbook, The Flood.

This fonds consists of a two-volume biography of Eliza Jane (Hughes) McAlpine, 1854-1938, written by her grandson, Wallace McAlpine, fifty years after her death. The biography contains the Hughes family history from the Napoleonic era, follows Eliza's parents to Canada in the 1840's, describes the marriages of her siblings, and gives a fine sense of life in Durham County in the early years of Canada's nationhood. Eliza's battle with spinal meningitis is recounted. The volumes trace the events, joys, and sorrows of the sizeable Hughes family, the accomplishments of Eliza's husband, Dr. John McAlpine, and the experiences with horses and subsequently automobiles. The extraordinary impact of Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" is described. The famous Sir Sam Hughes was Eliza's brother and some of his exploits are described. Eliza's tour of Europe is described as it took place just before the outbreak of World War I. Lt. A.A. MacLeod's story is told. There is an account of Lt. Col. Cyril D.H. McAlpine's fateful expedition in the Arctic; a biographical sketch of J.W.L. Foster who painted a portrait of Eliza; an account of M.P. Tom Stinson's visits with Eliza; Eliza's disgust with Vicki Baum; her pleasure in talking with Chief Paudash; and finally her death and its aftermath. The volumes provide a wide, varied sketch of the times in which the events transpire.

Attached to the pages within the volumes are approximately 30 photographs, most of which are portraits, and are both in black and white, and colour.
