"During the tour the Vice-Regal partly drove nearly 1,500 miles after leaving the Canada Pacific line at Portage la Prairie; hence no more reliable accounts could be obtained from any traveller than His Excellency was in a position to give, and his statements proclaim trumpet-tongued that the Land of Promise surpasses in richness of soil, grandeur of scenery, and gradations of climatology, any other country upon the American Continent." - Introduction.
