This fonds consists of correspondence, photographs, etc. of Gilbert and Stewart Bagnani and their families. Important historical materials relating to the John Beverley Robinson family are included. The fonds also consists of Gilbert's research material as an archaeologist, Stewart's research material relating to her work as an art lecturer, photographs and materials relating to the Bagnani estate, "Vogrie", located in Port Hope, Ontario, and materials concerning Gilbert and Stewart's association with Trent University.

Folder includes the following letters:

  • September 10 1832, Niagara - Judge Hagerman to his daughter, Mary Jane (Note: Mary Jane later married Hon. John Beverley Robinson)
  • June 5 1847, Cobourg - John Beverley Robinson to his wife (re their 30th wedding anniversary, their children, etc.)
  • Note: Two letters were attached to a letter dated June 7 1927 (enclosed in this folder with the two letters) from Henrietta Tupper to Augusta Houston - Tupper refers to the two letters dated Sept. 25 1854 and Dec. 21 1857, and says "...thinking of your grandfather Sir John Beverley Robinson, and of my dear father's correspondence with him. I remembered that a Miss Robinson, his daughter, had come over to Guernsey... resulted in my finding the two letters which I now enclose for your perusal..."). File consists of notes and partial manuscripts for "My Aunt Minnie" written by Stewart Bagnani. Also included are two letters to Stewart from the typist of the manuscript. Included within the notes of this folder are 5 handwritten transcripts of letters written to John B. Robinson, Chief Justice, Toronto, from Thomas Talbot, Port Talbot; one written in 1834, three in 1836, and one in 1837.

Envelope with title "Minnies & Gussies hair, a lock of each, Minnies dark - Gussies light" Note: this envelope has one lock of darkish hair wrapped inside a piece of paper, and another lock of hair wrapped inside a piece of paper with title "Beverley's hair cut off when he was 2 years & 2 months old"
  2. Envelope with title "The First Mrs. Hagerman's Hair Found among old papers etc., June 25th 1896" (inside are long reddish locks)

File includes 13 prayer books and pocket bibles. Many are inscribed, including to/by Augusta Houston, Gilbert Bagnani, Stewart Houston (Bagnani), and Florence R. Dewar. Some are given by C.J.S. & A. Bethune. Some include inserts of prayer cards and other materials. One book, given for Stewart's confirmation in 1920, includes a bundle of hair.

In addition, there are silhouettes glued into the inside of the front and back covers, which indicate that the journal was compiled by a member or acquaintance of the Robinson family - to name a few, the silhouettes are labeled "Augusta Robinson", "Napier Robinson."

File consists of opera programmes, listing "Miss Beverley Robinson" as one of the performers, 1885 and 1886. Also enclosed with one of the programmes is an unidentified photo of a woman [possibly Augusta Robinson]. A press notice in this folder indicates that "Miss Beverley Robinson" is "Miss Augusta Beverley Robinson", [Stewart Bagnani's mother], daughter of the Hon. John Beverley Robinson, and granddaughter of Sir John Beverley Robinson.
