This collection consists of petitions, proclamations, printed acts, correspondence relating to British North America, Hudson's Bay Company, and the governance of British North America by the British crown. There are records relating to the Red River Settlement, the British Columbia Act and Oregon Territory, as well as several historical maps.

Sanson, geographe ordinaire du Roy. A Paris, chez H. Jaillot, joignant les grands Augustins aux deux globes, 1674. Coloured in outline. Large title cartouche and cartouche of scales both uncoloured. Copy of the first edition only a few copies of which are recorded. California is copied from Sanson's 1656 map. The remainder of the map is based on Sanson's 1669 Map. Omits Montreal. A highly decorative piece consisting of a circular map 17 in. in diameter of the Arctic set within a rectangle 19 x 17 in. with its remaining portions filled with remarkable coloured vignettes of whaling scenes in the northern regions. The Arctic is shown in its standard form for this period ... with Northwest America absent due to lack of available knowledge.

One of earlier printed maps of Canada and the first one ever to use "Montreal" as a name, printed here as "Monte Real". Illustrations show the Indian village and stockade and the Indians meeting the French. Printed at top left corner: "446"; top right corner: "447".
