            Part of Isolated manuscripts collection

            File contains records pertaining to the career of James Armstrong, member of the RCMP, while stationed at Alexandria Fjord, Ellesmere Island, Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) between 1958 and 1961. Included are two items created in 2015: one compact disc of 14 audio mp3 files titled “Alexander Fjord” (containing recollections of James Armstrong); and, one flash drive of copies of images taken from 1433 slides of Alexander Fjord (included are images of nine Inuit families of Alexander Fjord that were under the supervision of Armstrong; images of Armstrong himself; northern airplanes; northern scenery, etc.)

            The records of the Northern Chair consist of committee minutes, taped lectures, correspondence, records related to Thomas Berger, Dennis Patterson, Mary Simon, William Taylor, etc. and cover the dates 1986-2003. The records were forwarded to the Archives in 1993 by Peter Kulchisky, in 1996 by John Milloy, and in 1998 by Bruce Hodgins. A further addition of tapes, reels, and videos was received from the Audio-Visual Department in approximately 2012 and added to existing boxes.

            This addition to the fonds consists of the records of the Canadian Association in Support of Native Peoples arranged in five series : National Office, Toronto 1959-1973; Library and Information Centre 1972-1975; Western Regional Office, Edmonton, 1966-1972; Northwest Territories Regional Office, Yellowknife, 1967-1970; Ontario Native Development Fund, 1968-1971. The fonds includes correspondence, reports, minutes, financial statements, memorandum, and photographs.

            This collection consists of petitions, proclamations, printed acts, correspondence relating to British North America, Hudson's Bay Company, and the governance of British North America by the British crown. There are records relating to the Red River Settlement, the British Columbia Act and Oregon Territory, as well as several historical maps.

            Collection includes the agendas, minutes, and correspondence of the Meta Incognita Project Steering Committee and the Archival Research Task Force (ARTAF). Also included are ARTAF research materials, reports, transcripts, notes, etc. relating to an American Historical Association meeting and a Trent University conference which focused on the subject of Frobisher and his Northwest initiatives.

            This fonds consists of: correspondence with Vilhjalmur Stefansson, Clifford Wilson and others relating to Arctic explorations; several photographs including some of the construction of the Peterborough Lift Lock and of downtown Peterborough, Ontario circa 1900; and newspaper clippings of book reviews. Also included are artifacts retrieved by Douglas from the area of Coppermine, NWT.

            This fonds consists of two binders enclosing the typescript of a narrative called "Rivers of Ice, the Voyage of Captain George Tyson." When the safety of the ship is threatened by being crushed in the ice, a contingent take refuge on a large ice floe. The narrative follows their vicissitudes and ultimate rescue.

            This fonds consists of correspondence and reports relating to the National and Provincial Parks Association of Canada as well as the personal papers of Gavin Henderson. There are records on conservation, Quetico Park, the Niagara area such as the American Falls and information on Banff and Jasper National Parks. Included in the fonds is the thesis of George Warecki entitled "Protecting Ontario's Wilderness: A History of Wilderness Conservation in Ontario." Also included in the fonds are various publications on wilderness, outdoor recreation, conservation and naturalist activities. There are also four scrapbooks which contain clippings regarding conservation, parks and the 1972 winter olympics.

            Item is a 180-page typescript of an Eskimo-French dictionary written by Arthur Thibert in 1932. An accompanying note written by Mary M. Parsons reads as follows: "While stationed at Eskimo Point N.W.T. where my husband was the O/C the R.C.M.P. detachment, I was requested by the priests of the Catholic mission to type a copy of this dictionary. I would believe this book to be one of the copies I made at that time. Arthur Thibert whose name the manuscript bears, was a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was, in fact, the priest who performed our marriage so I got to know him well. My part was done during the winter of 1941-42. [signed] Mary M. Parsons."

            This fonds consists of three certificates: the first, dated October 19, 1948 appoints the Hon. Harold Robinson Scott as Minister of Lands and Forests for Ontario; the second, dated May 4, 1949 confirms that appointment; and the third, dated May 4, 1949 appoints him as a member of the Executive Council of the province of Ontario.

            This fonds consists of photocopies of records of John Lyon Tylor's family members. It includes the correspondence of William Plummer, 1871-1891 regarding Northern Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie development; manuscript speeches of Robert Adam Lyon, MPP Algoma, 1870-1885; a note of William D. Lyon, MPP Halton, 1919; letters from Robert W. Service and Bill Sime to Harold Tylor relating to memories of the Yukon Territory, literary and personal matters; and newspaper clippings including an obituary of Robert Service.

            These documents consist of two stapled mimeographed books. The first, dated March 1946 and entitled "The Union of Saskatchewan Indians: The Record of the Establishment of Indian Unity in Saskatchewan" records the minutes of meetings held in Regina, Duck Lake and Saskatoon, and provides names of the Constitution Committee. It also contains reprints of Treaties No.3 and 4. The second book, dated July 1946 and entitled "The Treaties Between Her Majesty, Queen Victoria and The Indians of British North America" contains reprints of Treaties No. 3,4,5,6,7, and 8.

            This fonds consists of papers and records forwarded by Trevor Lloyd regarding the North, Arctic North America, Greenland, Rasmusson, the Scandanavian north, the Thule expedition V, Canadian Arctic Sovereignty, Canadian Arctic Defense, Eskimo, musk oxen, Mackenzie River and many other articles and photocopied records relating to the north.

            This item is a journal of events kept by the Post Manager at Eastmain, Outfit 260, James Bay District of the Hudson's Bay Company. His instructions were to record weather conditions, temperatures, activities of Inuit and Native fur trade, animal and bird migration patterns, supply ship and passenger activity, mail arrivals and news of Revillon Freres at an adjoining post. A transcription of the Journal is available.
