This spade was used during the sod turning ceremony for the Cobourg-Peterborough railway. The inscription reads: "Presented by the directors to Mrs. S.E. Mackechnie Lady Mayoress Cobourg on the occasion of her turning the first sod of the Cobourg and Peterboro Railroad on Monday the 7th day of February 1853."

This addition to the fonds consists of correspondence, publicity materials, posters, film journals and magazines, buttons, t-shirts, tickets, administrative records and film catalogues of the Canadian Images film festival held in Peterborough annually from 1978 to 1984.

File consists of two copies of Katherine E. Wallis: Canadian Sculptor by A. Roger Collins. One copy is inscribed "Dear Aunt Elise with much love from 'Alas!' and 'Alack!,' Happy Memories, 1949". Elise may refer to Elise Roux (1853-1953), wife of Thomas Alexander Stewart Hay (son of Dr. Thomas Hay and Anna Maria Stewart). Loosely inserted is an unidentified photograph of a woman.
The second copy is inscribed "Helen Dear for the new house, Love from Alice, 1953". Helen may refer to the donor's aunt, Helen Frances Mathias who married Rod Stuart; Alice may refer to the author, Alice Roger Collins.

File also includes two removable flash memory devices containing Dr. Mathias' PhD dissertation as well as digital images, slides, and photographs linked to archaeology work conducted by Mathias in Newfoundland, Qatar and Afghanistan. The dissertation provides context for the images.

Collection consists of consent forms, transcripts, and audio recordings relating to Dr. waaseyaa'sin Christine Sy's research for her doctoral dissertation, Following ininaahtigoog Home : Anishinaabeg Womxn iskigamiziganing, which "examines Anishinaabeg womxn’s relationship with the sugar bush during the spring harvest as a site of gendered nation-specific economic sovereignty."

Collection includes transcripts and audio recordings of conversations with Amy McCoy Sayers, Barbara Wall Potter, Gidigaa Migizi Doug Williams, James Whetung, Lewis Debassige, Makadebinesii'ikawe Tessa Reed, Mary Beaver, Mayingankwe Jacquie LaValley, Norma Corbiere, George Corbiere, Rick Beaver, and Wabanong Ikawe Charlene Loonfoot.

Individuals and their ancestors are from many places, including Ziinzaabaakwad Minis (Sugar Island), Potawatomi Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, Alderville First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, M'Chigeeng First Nation, Drummond Island, Manistique Michigan, Bawating (Sault Ste. Marie), Sagamok, and Keweenaw Bay.

Conversations focus on the culture of sugar bush practices, sugar bush stories, and the process of collection of maple sap and production of maple syrup. Participants share their own stories as well as those shared with them by ancestors and others. Conversations also cover many other topics, including community and family history, clan and family responsibilities, gender roles and gender fluidity, research methodologies, the impacts of colonialism and displacement, the forests and trees, food, muskrat camp, trapping, fishing, and various aspects of political and economic history.

Fonds consists of the printed genealogy of the families of Ian Lachlan Campbell (1927-) and Marion Isabel (Wellwood) Campbell (1926-). Included are 14 spiral-bound volumes entitled "Difficulty Overcome." The volumes are a study of the clans, extended families, lineages and families of the descendants of Colin Campbell (b. Islay 1792, d. Eldon Twp., Ontario - 1877); Isabella Carmichael (b. Islay 1792, d. Eldon Twp., Ontario - 1830); William McLachlan (b. Isle of Islay, d. Victoria County, Ontario); Christina Bell; William McCoy (b. Co. Down, Ireland, 1819, d. Hamilton, Ontario, 1887), Ann Hamilton (Ireland); Samuel Jeffery (b. County Down, Ireland, d. Haley Station, Ontario); John Elis Gilpin (b. United Kingdom, d. Jellys, Ontario - 1869); and Margaret Laycock (d. Haley Station, Ontario - 1900).

Fonds consists of research materials relating to early nineteenth-century Irish immigrants, Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Browne Stewart, of Douro Township, County of Peterborough in Ontario. Included in the research materials are photographs (including 3 daguerreotypes), genealogical family charts, and articles and papers relating to Stewart family descendents and other Peterborough settler families. Also included is the personal correspondence of Jean Shearman.

This fonds is a small collection of historical information on the people, places, mills, organizations in Cavan Township and the Village of Millbrook. Included are reminiscences from pioneer descendants, essays on the Cavan Blazers (an Orange vigilante group), early mills, prominent pioneer citizens and local legends.

Collection consists of 12 leather-bound volumes of the plays of William Shakespeare, with "Thos. A. Stewart" bookplates glued on the inside cover of each volume. The volumes are numbered I through XII. Volume XII includes the following bibliographic information: "The Plays of William Shakespeare, from the correct edition of Isaac Reed, Esq., London, Printed for Vernor, Hood and Sharpe, Poultry; and Taylor and Hessey, Fleet Street. 1809." On the final page of each volume, except for Volumes I and II, the following additional information appears: "Stereotyped and printed by A. Wilson, Duke Street, Lincoln's-Inn Fields, London." On the final page of Vol. I, the following information appears: "Stereotyped by Andrew Wilson." Vol. I has the following additional names hand-written on the bookplate: "George A. Stewart", "Louis B. Stewart", and "[B] [ ] Stewart". Volumes III, VI, and VIII have "George A. Stewart" added to the bookplate. Handwritten on the bookplate for Vol. IV is "Thos. A. Stewart"; this may be Stewart's signature.

This fonds consists of photocopied correspondence of the Stewart and Dunlop families. Most of the letters are to Ellen Dunlop (daughter of Frances Browne Stewart) from Frances Stewart, Catharine Parr Traill and Harriet Beaufort as well as James Wallis. Also included is a Stewart family tree.

This fonds consists of correspondence, sketches and class lecture notes of Erik Loder. Loder's theories of art are discernible in his jottings and notes. Also included are numerous art catalogues and exhibition notes; slides of Loder art works; sketches, drawings and paintings; personal cards and letters sent at the time of Loder's death in 1993; art auction and sale lists.

File consists of a photograph, possibly of Mary Northway, a field day program for Balhen Chipnor Gang, two typescript and one handwritten copy of paper titled "Peru: A Paradise or a Problem," one blank Rosedale address card, and Peru papers ascribed to Theophilus Prune, P.D.Q., R.S.V.P, T.N.T (this character is likely fictitious?).

Fonds consists of a photograph of Young Nim You; various Korean church-related journal issues and extracted excerpts, many with hand-written English explanations; Korean pamphlets relating to women's involvement in Korean churches and cultural groups; and a manuscript and published article written by You entitled Korean Sisterhood and published in Newsletter: Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada, March 1993. Also included are two posters and a calendar.

This item is a Lower School Graduation Diploma from the Peterborough Institute issued to Sarsfield Sheehy on September 1st, 1909 and signed by H.R.H. Kenner, the principal and Louis M. Hayes, the Chairman of the Peterborough Board of Education.
