This collection consists of petitions, proclamations, printed acts, correspondence relating to British North America, Hudson's Bay Company, and the governance of British North America by the British crown. There are records relating to the Red River Settlement, the British Columbia Act and Oregon Territory, as well as several historical maps.

[Venice? 1565?] Woodcut plan of the town of Hochelaga as described by Cartier who visited in 1535. One of earlier printed maps of Canada and the first one ever to use "Montreal" as a name, printed here as "Monte Real". Illustrations show the Indigenous village and stockade and meeting the French. Quebec. 21 Holland, Samuel, 1728-1801. A new map of the Province of Lower Canada, describing all the seigneuries, townships, grants of land, etc. to which is added a plan of the rivers Scoudiac and Magaguadavic, surveyed in 1796, 1797 & 1798 by order of the Commissioners appointed to ascertain the true River St. Croix intended by the Treaty of Peace between His Britannic Majesty and the United States of America. London, William Faden, April 12, 1813. Not in Phillips. This is another issue, without any changes except the date imprint of a map first published August 12, 1802

From: The English Pilot, the fourth book, describing the West-India Navigation, from Hudson's Bay to the river Amazones... Map no. 14. Dublin, 1767. Map also has cartouche: To the right Honble the Lords Comission for Trade and plantations. No author given. Phillips notes the map was probably inserted. Appears to be based on Thomas Jefferys' map of 1750

Sanson, geographe ordinaire du Roy. A Paris, chez H. Jaillot, joignant les grands Augustins aux deux globes, 1674. Coloured in outline. Large title cartouche and cartouche of scales both uncoloured. Copy of the first edition only a few copies of which are recorded. California is copied from Sanson's 1656 map. The remainder of the map is based on Sanson's 1669 Map. Omits Montreal.
