This fonds consists of day books, account books, miscellaneous invoices, and photographs relating to the John Bee family who operated a saw mill near Port Hope in the 1850's.

This item is an affectionate letter written by John Black from [Stockton] to his wife, Catherine Black, living in Carleton Place, Upper Canada. Black expresses his sorrow at not being able to send money to his wife for such a long time. He indicates the "very hard winter" and problems at his workplace, a "shop in town" which builds wagons, as reasons for not having any money to send.

The fonds consists of three original letters. Two are written to Harriet Beaufort, the third and last one to Maria Noble. Letter #1 (November 9, 1823-December 6, 1823), tells of mail received, the death of Frances' daughter Bessie, description of produce, and of difficulties in communication with Cobourg. Letter #2 (January 27, 1824-February 5, 1824), describes Frances' troubles with servants, of Tom's trip to Cobourg over the Rice Lake/Peterborough Road, and his getting lost on the lake, and her new baby girl. Letter #3, written from Goodwood, (April 11, 1854), tells of Tom's death, and her reflections on it.

This addition to the fonds consists of baptism records, marriage lists, and burial lists for the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham.

Fairbanks, up to 1858 in the books as well.

This fonds consists of a number of issues of a handwritten newspaper, written weekly by agricultural students of Colonel Samuel Strickland of Lakefield, Canada West. The issues are scattered and topics covered include agriculture, local events, local gossip, and politics. Also included are four letters of George M. Douglas relating to the newspaper.

This item is a pencil sketch depicting three houses, each of which has two chimneys, with a continuous fence running along the front of all three. There is a woman, man and child walking towards one of the houses. On the back of the sketch is written "#17140 at Roy's Studio, Peterborough". The sketch is most likely by Rev. Michael Farrar and shows Hastings, Canada West.

This item is a privately published book inscribed to "my dear friend Mrs. Traill" from "George W. Bridges, Beachly Parsonage June 18, 1862." The book tells of the desertion of Mr. Bridges' wife and the drowning of their daughters in an accident near Jamaica and his efforts to effect a reconciliation.

This fonds consists of the records of the Cobourg foundry. It includes journals, ledgers, correspondence, accounts, pay lists, bills, receipts, contracts and specifications of jobs done as kept by James Davidson, founder and machine shop operator. There is also some correspondence from A. Munson of Oil Springs, Canada West relating to the oil industry, as well as correspondence from Henry Fowlds with regards to work done and payment of accounts.

This item is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings describing the Fenian Raids made on the borders of Canada West, Canada East and the United States in 1866.
