              This fonds consists of four typed manuscripts written by George H. Young for his children in [1913]. The titles of the manuscripts are as follows: "Historical Paper No. 1. Notes of 1869-70. The Red River Settlement at times spoken of as Fort Garry" (33 pages); "Historical Paper No. 2. The Fenian Raid of October 1871 into Manitoba" (21 pages); "Historical Paper No. 3. Being the first paper of the rebellion of 1885" (22 pages); "Historical Paper No. 4. Re. The half breed and Indian insurrection of 1885" (22 pages). There are references throughout to Louis Riel.

              Fonds consists of two microfilm reels. The first is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Band Records, 1880-1966, and includes land sale records, correspondence in sale of land, and Jesuit diaries. Source information noted on this film is as follows: "This material lent for microfilming to the Department of Public Records and Archives by Mr. Wilmer Nadjiwon of Cape Croker, February, 1968, and was returned to him. Accession Number 6018". There is also reference to "Ontario Archives" throughout. The second is of Cape Croker Indian Reserve Records, 1856-1919 and includes Paul Smith field notes, band council resolutions, native cures, and history of Cape Croker reserve. Source information noted on this film is as follows: "Rec'd Dec. 12, 1966, Dept. Ethnology."

              Microfilm consists of one 16 mm reel of records collected by Chief George Paudash of the Hiawatha reserve at Rice Lake, Ontario. Included on the reel are the following: Letterbook, 1825-1842; Band Council Minutes, 1834-1848; Peter Jones Entry Book, 1831-1848 (includes band council minutes, correspondence, addresses, and petitions); and Band Council Minutes and Correspondence, 1842-1867. The reel is Series A - Vol. 1011, T-1456.

              Item is a 180-page typescript of an Eskimo-French dictionary written by Arthur Thibert in 1932. An accompanying note written by Mary M. Parsons reads as follows: "While stationed at Eskimo Point N.W.T. where my husband was the O/C the R.C.M.P. detachment, I was requested by the priests of the Catholic mission to type a copy of this dictionary. I would believe this book to be one of the copies I made at that time. Arthur Thibert whose name the manuscript bears, was a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was, in fact, the priest who performed our marriage so I got to know him well. My part was done during the winter of 1941-42. [signed] Mary M. Parsons."

              Fonds consists of Professor Allan L. Sherwin’s research materials relating to the biography of Bridging Two Peoples: Chief Peter E. Jones, 1843-1909 and the nineteenth and early twentieth century history of the Mississaugas (Ojibwe) of the New Credit First Nation of Hagersville, Ontario. The research materials consist primarily of photocopies of original documents including letters and papers from Library and Archives Canada, the Archives of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and various other publications. Copies of correspondence between Dr. Jones and Prime Minister John A. Macdonald, copies of The Indian, the newspaper edited by Dr. Jones and writings of various Aboriginal writers are included. Interspersed within the files is correspondence with other academics especially Canadian Historian Professor Donald B. Smith, the author of the classic biography of Dr. Peter E. Jones’s father entitled Sacred Feathers: The Reverend Peter Jones (Kahkewaquonaby) and the Mississauga Indians.

              Fonds is comprised of nine one-inch master video reels of ten documentaries produced by documentary filmmaker Gary Elwood Nichol in the 1980s. Of primarily an Indigenous focus, the films were produced in co-operation with Indigenous communities and cover such themes as healing circles, substance abuse, suicide, the Pope’s original and failed visit to the Dene in 1984, Indigenous artists, etc. Shown primarily on CBC and PBS and in-flight on Air Canada, titles include: Rice Dancer; Life Circles; The Circle Moving; The Only Gift; The Yerxa’s: An Ojibway Heritage; A Gathering in Denendeh; Nature’s Gallery; Jean Luc Grondin; Smiths Falls Carvers; and the National Film Board of Canada’s Trent Severn.

Dating 1979 through 2016, it represents a significant episode in Canadian environment activism and is comprehensive in scope. Among the materials included are: notes for speeches; transcriptions of government environmental assessments and WYE Citizens Group meetings; WYE Citizens Group press releases; maps and records of water well locations near Site 41; hydrological and geotechnical records pertaining to the watershed characteristics of the Site 41 area; MOE correspondence and statements relating to proposed dump site management, waste management and related technological considerations; Simcoe County “Corporate Services” records including meeting minutes and agendas, notifications, memorandum, notes, correspondence and emails, and media clippings; court proceedings and legal documents obtained through Freedom of Information requests made by Stephen Ogden; photographs, dossiers for exhibits; audio-visual materials including cassette tapes, VHS tapes, CDs and DVDs.
